mcguigans ringside feature was terrific. Mcrory needs to go!

Post by Bricks »

Granted he couldnt have had a more interesting topic for his magazine skit but mcguigan looked assured as a anchor and journalist.

Johhny nelson finally finally seems to be getting it right. He is pausing more and emphasizing words more.good on the lad.

Glen mcrory remains a lost cause he never has anything interesting to say and it was terrible the way he kept interrupting jamie moore who does have something to say.

I hate rabble type studio discussions and mcrory doesnt know how to wait his turn.
I say he goes and goes now hes had 20 years at sky drop him give someone else a chance.

I actually quite like Glen as a pundit/presenter. Has a likeable, self deprecating style, and does know the sport very well.

I agree with Mugabi. Glenn just doesn't do it for me as presenter/pundit. Jamie Moore is always excellent, Baz McGuigan is excellent too, probably my favourite pundit to be honest. I always found Jon Thaxton good when he was on ITV. Rawling and McGuigan have made the move to Sky, Jonno would be well received imo. Drop Mcrory, give Thaxton a go.

When the had john conteh on a few weeks back it was great and conteh seemed to be a avuncular presence to nelson and they meshed well. Conteh is quietly spoken he leaves u hanging on every word and has a sense of humour too. He'd be good on fight nights.

I like McCrory, not got a problem with him at all. Agree with the guy who said Nelson has improved I've noticed that the last week or two he has been clearer and taking more breaths and pauses. If he carried on like he was doing I could see him getting the hook because he was pretty much indecipherable at times!

Conteh was pretty poor in the studio I thought, they had to coax out all his answers.
They should have shown clips of his fights then just had a quick word with him

Not seen it yet but it all sounds positive, I'm a big McGuigan fan - natural, eloquent and passionate rather than a Stepford Wife presenter.

Ringside came on around 7:30pm.

To be honest I can't stand the sight of Nelson and Smith sitting there smugly each week.

Perhaps allow Smith to stay as he's running the show, but nothing against Nelson as a presenter, I personally just can't bear his presence or voice on the TV. He is used too much and is far too smug.

Conteh was TERRIBLE! He had nothing to say and looked like a rabbit in headlights. Genuinely the worst guest I've ever seen on Ringside by an absolute mile.

I wish people would stop having a pop at Johnny Nelson - I like him and can't see why people knock him so much. Am I missing something?

Jamie Moore is top though - really, really good. Thaxton would be a great addition for Sky also.

Have to agree that McGuigan is the business

His enthusiasm for the sport comes through brilliantly but he doesnt get too carried away. Great wee guy in my opinion.

Johnny nelson doesnt bother me, hes decent enough.
Id love to see a more live version of ringside aswell, similar to "youre on sky sports"
Even if it was only on the build up to big fights so that the public could ask questions directly to fighters, trainers etc or whoever was in the studio.

Was pissin myself at they love bites aswell, would be funny if adam smith came on the show like that next week. Hahaha

Nelson is OK for me, but I thought his interviewing of Mick Williamson and Richie Davies was pretty weak. Questions were rubbish...seemed they were off the cuff rather than pre-planned. Williamson looked a bit vacant at a couple of them.

Nelson is actually ok on Ringside, it is his punditry on fight nights that is shocking. I am not a fan of McCrory either....

Those love bites!! Hahahahahha. And his bird had about 5 as well. What've they been doing? Eating each other by the looks of it. Shameful I'm afraid to say. Or maybe Shameless.

Spot on!!

Johnny is getting worse, we all thought he was on the gear the amount of gurning and deep breaths he took. He is reading an auto cue FFS, it cant get any more simple yet he is utter shite! I believe he is a very nice guy but just doesn't cut it as a presenter.

My picks for the Sky boxing team are;

Baz - Main man
Jamie Moore - Takes Johnnys place
Ed Robinson - Features and news
Jim Watt & Gary Newbon - Commentary team
Spencer - Between rounds analyst and regular studio guest.
Adam Smith - Stays firmly behind the scenes, never to be seen or heard again.

Yeh I've eased off on overly criticising presenters. End of the day they are guys who love boxing trying to do a job, people are hyper-critical of every little thing these days.

I actually like Adam Smith, i think he's a decent presenter and I also used to think his commenary was decent enough. SO he's got a bit of a posh background blah blah and never boxed, I don't really care for that, cos he is miles better than Johnny Nelson and holds RIngside together quite well I find.

the fact that Smith has never boxed should not even come into it. He clearly loves boxing, and comes across as much of a fan as any of us watching. fair play to him
