most would have him bottom half of the top 10.
puts things into perspective.
just cos rhodes is euro champ doesn't mean he necessarily deserves a shot.
especially when the euro scene is a bit gash compared to the world level guys.

agreed mate - but he's 20 years old - when you look at Murray's British title fight last night and seen a 19 year old kid out of his depth and consider that Canelo is just a year older - incredible that he boxed with such maturity and poise against a class operator like Rhodescharlieb wrote:Gutted for Rhodes.
Fight was decided the minute Alvarez took him seriously. Can't think of another of his fights where he took less chances and presented as few openings.
Totally disagree, Alvarez just wouldn't allow him to get going.Jon Saxon wrote:wesley05 wrote:you prickJon Saxon wrote:What a pile of shite.

He did, he shat it, he commited to nothing, his big chance and he blew it.
Exactly. Alvarez was too good, Rhodes couldn't get past his handspeed and movement, and when he did open up, Alvarez had real power and authority with his punchesIan 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Totally disagree, Alvarez just wouldn't allow him to get going.Jon Saxon wrote:wesley05 wrote: you prick

good post, but at 20 we can't expect the complete package, but he's far closer than he's any right to be and he's having learning fights at World Title level and improving immeasurably each time.johnswan1 wrote:I felt Alvarez improved a lot from the Hatton fight. He probably underestimated Hatton but seemed to have taken Rhodes very seriously.
For a twenty year old he boxed in a very mature manner. He doesn't appear to have single punch KO power but he is extremely strong, accurate, calm, patient and throws nice combinations.
However, on the back foot I think he looks vulnerable. His head movement was good and he was hit less than he was against Hatton, but he'll be tested much more when somebody tries to take the fight to him.
Rhodes seemed surprised by the strength and speed of Alvarez and seemed to be discouraged. Not until the later rounds did he throw anything with bad intentions. He wasn't able to deal with the combinations and looked all over the place any time he was backed up. The corner didn't seem to have a Plan B and even if they did I doubt it would have been enough.
Alvarez looked huge, I wonder if he has problems making weight and I doubt he'll remain at Light Middle for too much longer.
I don't think he's the complete package just yet. We all thought Rhodes would test him, but he didn't. I think he should be looking for a fight with Cotto next, whom I think he'd wear down and stop, although I think Cotto is after the Margarito rematch.
Any potential bout with Chavez Jr seems a long way off yet as both can sell tickets independently. My favourite matchup for him would be with Cintron or Williams.

Did Coldwell really say "you've lost every round, so you may as well get knocked out" ?!
