Excellent I look forward to it.

I am however a little shocked that there has not been a good book on the great Jimmy Wilde, recently anyway.

"Mike Tyson, Money, Myth and Betryal" is a great read, seems to be very well researched and goes from Tyson's pre D'amato days up to the rape convinction.

A wealth of information about Tyson and those around him is in there, and it debunks a few myths about how saintly Cus D'amato was.

The most recent books that I have read are:

"King of the Canebrakes" pretty good bio of Young Stribling written by a Stribling family friend.

"Somebody Up There Likes Me" Fantastic bio of Graziano, I've heard that his second book "Somebody Down There Likes Me Too" isn't very good, but the first one is highly recommended.

"Boxing Day" Really interesting book about the Tommy Burns-Jack Johnson bout and events leading up to the bout as well as a section on turn of the century popular Australian heavyweight Bill Squires. Very good read!

"Boxing Babylon" A very interesting book about the darker side of boxing. Chapters include boxers who were murdered, committed suicide, accidental deaths, shady characters and several other aspects. Some of the fighters covered: Battling Siki, Kid McCoy, Stanley Ketchel, Harry Greb, Pancho Villa, Oscar Bonavena, etc...

“Terrible Terry” A small booklet about Terry McGovern written by Nat Flesicher who does a pretty good job at covering parts of McGovern’s life. 64 pages total.

I’m getting ready to read “Papa Jack.”

Seren's summary of the book is:

Occupation: Prizefighter – Andrew Gallimore

Born Frederick Davies, in Pontypridd, he left his comfortable family life for the great outdoors of Canada to help improve his health. Then he became a boxer, changing his name to Welsh as both a signifier of his nationality and to avoid bringing shame on his family.
I'm curious about him being born Frederick Davies. Is that from a press release for the book?

I mentioned further up that I've always believed his birth name to be Frederick Thomas. It's been nagging at me since I posted it so I looked up his birth record. Sure enough, he was registered Frederick Hall Thomas.

Where does the Frederick Davies come from or was that just a typo?

I'm ashamed to say that I didn't notice the name as Frederick Davies. Of course, Freddie Welsh's name was Frederick Hall Thomas. The name Davies was in an email, containing a summary of the book, sent to me by the marketing officer for Seren Books. I can only assume that she just entered the name wrongly. I will email her tomorrow pointing out the error - hopefully it is just a typo on her behalf because if its not it doesn't bode well does it? :D

Raging Bull by Jake La Motta is a fantastic read, really gives you the feel for the era in which Jake ran wild without glorifying it.

I bought that book not too long ago, but I have only read the chapter on Jack "Kid" Berg and it was really good, so I'll probably finish it off before too long.

Good call. I've lent that book to some non-Boxing fans over the years and even they have enjoyed it.

I've received a reply from Seren Books and it was a typo by the marketing officer, in her email. She also states that in the book Freddie's name is of course, Frederick Hall Thomas. Good spot lamphey. Thanks.

I would urge those of you who have read what you consider good boxing books to create a Wiki account and add those books to the Wiki Encyclopedia "Book Category." A brief critique of the book--pro and/or con--would be nice, too. We other Wiki members can help you along, if you want to know how to create new Wiki pages, and so forth.

I have heard there are two new books out on Charlie Burley, but for the life of me, I cannot remeber the titles of them!

Anyway, not too many people know a great deal about Burley. The late Eddie Futch and Archie Moore felt Charlie was the greatest fighter who ever lived, including Sugar Ray Robinson! Apparently, Burley was avoided by Robinson and other great fighters?

Anyway, want ot get the books and read them, as I do not not know a lot about Charlie Burley.

One of the best books I have read is: The Inner Ring, by Rudy Gonzales (Mike Tyson's former driver, personal assistant, etc.) It is a very good read, and goes deep into the truth about how Don King, John Horne and Rory Holloway ripped Mike off! Anyone else read this book?

That's good. I'll be awaiting this book eagerly.

I have the two "Life and Battles of Freddie Welsh" booklets published when he was still active close on a 100 years ago, but a more (hopefully) in depth look at his whole career is long overdue.

Sorry, I knew it was some boxing pun in its title.

The story of Tyson's rape trial is called - "Down for the count".
