Ryan Rhodes. Still got lots to give to career

Post by nelsoninfour »

Although saturday was not the result we are hoped for I think all fans agree Ryan came up against a future Super star.It would be such a shame for him to let that be the end.
I hear the European vacant again? Surely K-9 is beatable.
Think a push on these forums to get people talking is just whats needed.
Come on Ricky use the hitman magic and get ryan a shot at that IBF title.
Dont retire Spice Boy :bag: :bag: :bag:

RR has more to offer. K9 is more suited to his style and I think he should carry on.....BUT it may require Hatton promotions or whoever his promoter is, to spalsh out and get a voluntary shot.

Rhodes fought a brilliant fighter, it was his first time out of the UK and there's better fights out there for him. Isnt Konecny the European champion now?

i heard that he had vacated for a world title shot? I think ryan would be suited to his come forward style

No shame in losing to Alvarez, he was expected to lose. I'd like to see him fight Konecny

Dzinziruk is fighting Konecny in the Czech i think, a shot against the winner would be a massive fight.

At the moment im just stuck in the thinking Ryans shot came a little to late, i seriously hope im wrong though.

Are they, that should be a good fight. Yeah Rhodes vs either would be great I'm sure he still has the fuel in the tank to give a good showing.

I'm not overly critical of the Sky presenters but, if I remember, Johnny Nelson implied Rhodes might be best hanging them up. I mean, if that's his opinion, fine.

However, I bet 'Brokeback' is glad he didn't listen to the advice of everyone who saw some of his performances. He'd have never shown his face again, never mind returned to a ring.

Rhodes still has plenty of offer and could be part of a couple of domestic crackers.

Hard situation for Johnny I thought. He is freinds with Ryan but think was just looking out for him. I am sure he will support Ryan whatever decision him and his family make.

Do agree that Rhodes has got more to offer

At British and Euro level, probably.

But he's 35 now and has been boxing for a long time.

Let's see what his plans are.

Not sure he will continue. Getting on a bit @ 35 yrs old.

Won't get a title shot in a hurry, so does he come down to British / Euro for a few more fights?

Not sure he wants that, so he might call it.

We shall see.

ian i see where your coming from, but to be fair johhny saidit wasnt for him to say when ryan should or shouldnt retire. He was pretty fair for his old mate and seemed sad ryan had lost

strange thing was the first ten rounds ryan showed none of the zip speed and frenetic energy matthew hatton had. Rhodes did suddenly find some zip and snap in his boxing the last couple of rounds and than got stopped.

Personally i think rhodes needs to regroup and should carry on.
Rhodes-hatton would be a great match up at european level and should surely give both men a payday they richly deserve

Aye, maybe I'm being a bit harsh on Brokeback Nelson.

Completely agree re above - Rhodes has had big spells of his career on the sidelines for one reason or another so hasn't earned as much as he should have. I don't agree with this 'last chance' at a world title either.

Everyone knows a commendable loss leads to MORE opportunities at the highest level these days.

Did Ryan have ring rust prior to this fight he only had two rounds in December, His last defence of EBU was last May.

Rhodes shouldn't be let anywhere near another world title shot anyway, that's for sure. He's not up to that level. He can probably make for some good domestic fights but he's lost his Ring ranking now having being dropped from 4th in the world to outside of the top 10 and it's unlikely he'll ever appear in it again.

Is Hatton going to be fighting Mbaye?

At 35, Ryan simply had to take this chance, but I would have loved to have seen him against Bunderage.

i fought a -chap- one time who later on got into the ring with mr Ryan! ( i was in/at 89 and that 'triangle' was in 97). Too bad he couldn't win in mexico. I think alvarez WILL Fault, though! ah,what was Ryan's purse on this? here's one (this is "brilliant"):fe....-do i need to say more-? (Allright, Figure it out!) -we've got a Puzzle here-
Enough with the throughly outboxed, Dany?

They should make the fecking panel stay away from the result to, and the commentators, and make it CLEAR that no one knows the fecking result. I'll also tell you what fucks me off, when they show highlights of the undercard before they actually show the fight.

What the flip is going on?

AND also, why do the repeatedly call Amir Khan light heavyweight world champion. I have heard that about a dozen times in the last year.

Grrrrrr.

how do you know that rhodes, at this age, has plenty more to give? the only thing he can do is go back to the domestic stage, at best EBU fights on sky sports. nothing wrong with that, and it was a very interesting comeback he's made, but now we've all seen the limit. honestly i think konekny would have beaten him on that magniifcent seven bill, if the fight had gone ahead.

he's lost his 2nd world title fight - even more convincingly. a punishing defeat. surely he doesn't make the weight so easily, and now struggles fighting at a fast pace. a good honest pro but i think now we've seen as far as he's going to go. a world title would have made for a great story but sometimes you have to consider the hard reality.

i don't think we want to see him in "gatekeeper" fights against rising prospects on the world scene.

also, it could be dangerous going back to the domestic level. because he'll be facing guys who are fighting "up" to him, eager to prove their reputation. and at some point some fresh, active guy is going to well outwork him.

something might have gone out of rhodes' game, after saturday's defeat. i mean, the dream isn't looking likely now, is it? will he be deflated after this?
