boxing news-tyson-atlas/ nelson says stallone isnt hof'er.
this weeks boxing news had an interesting page on the hall of fame inductees in canastota.
Teddy atlas was still taking cowardly digs at mike tyson as being unworthy of the hall of fame. He came out with his usual "any time tyson had a challenge from someone who wasnt intimidated or put up a fight he lost". Which of course is a despicable lie.
Tyson took some hellacious shots in 19 rounds with the brutal powerpunching rzor ruddock who may just have been along with tyson and lewis the greatest physical specimin and athlete the hw division has seen in the last 30 years. Tyson also took hard shots and fired back against bruno and bonecrusher. And against douglas he almost pulled out a win from defeat.......i think its high time atlas stopped being so bitter and blatantly unfair in regards to tyson
there was also on the same page a question directed to 4 panel members "should stallone have been inducted into hall of fame.....i was impressed and shocked at the answer by johhny nelson which was "no. If he had taken those shots in real life he'd have got his neck broken!".......this is a great quote and an interesting one.
If any man had a right to hold that view its a world champion like nelson who did all there was to do in the ring.......still in fairness to stallone nelsons view is unarguably wrong.
Throughout the 80s stallone had incredible respect from the stuntman communit and those who had worked with him as an incredibly tough man who insisted the only way to get the best camera angle and shot was by......his taking real shots! This is something that was verified in an interview done with the stuntmen who worked on rocky 4 in a 90s edition of movie mag impact..... There was a quote saying no stuntman in hollywood can take a shot like stallone. Certainly there is little doubt some of the shots in rocky 4 look real probably because they were.......there is also much footage of carl weathers and stallone engaging in sparring on the set of rocky 1. Finally stallone did almost get his neck broken by tarver during rocky 6 when to quote sly tarver sent him to hospital after a heart punch.......no doubt in my mind stallone belongs in the hall of fame........what do you guys think?

Re: boxing news-tyson-atlas/ nelson says stallone isnt hof'er.
Agree with you on Atlas being a bitter man, the fact he was undisputed world champion at 21 is enough for him to get into the Hall of Fame. People forget that Tyson beat 10 boxers who were either World champions at the time he beat them or recent world champions plus added to that dangerous guys like Golota, Ruddock and Olympic gold medalist Tyrell Biggs. Boxers who faced Tyson at his peak were never the same afterwards, he wrecked them mentally and physcially.
Agree that stallone should have been in based on the contribution and impact the Rocky films made to the sport of boxing.

Who cares about what Atlas has to say about anything? Does he have any credibility left?
Re: boxing news-tyson-atlas/ nelson says stallone isnt hof'er.
Tyson's intimidation of opponents was part of his armoury. It all counts.
The fact that he could do this is to be admired. fornicate Atlas

The boxing gym I went to over 20 ago would always have a handfull of new members in the week following any airing of one of the Rocky films. The films had a massive impact generating new interest amongst young aspiring boxers.MachoMan09 wrote:Stallone's physical robustness is not the reason he is in the IBHOF. Re: boxing news-tyson-atlas/ nelson says stallone isnt hof'er.
Exactly. And he's been inducted in the observor category, a point missed by all 4 people on the BN panel. If they are saying he has no right to be there because hasn't boxed then the same logic should be applied to , say, Harry Carpenter, Nat Fleischer, Hugh McIlvanney, Harry Mullan etc etc, which is plainly nonsense.MachoMan09 wrote:Stallone's physical robustness is not the reason he is in the IBHOF. Re: boxing news-tyson-atlas/ nelson says stallone isnt hof'er.
totally understand why stallone is there in the non-participant catagory, rocky films did a lot to increase the popularity of boxing amongst those who would not have followed boxing before...
but Atlas dissapoints me with his bias...how can any self respecting boxing pundit say tyson doesnt belong in the HOF?? he was slagging off tszyu being there on friday night fights? has atlas been inducted? cos by his logic he certainly shouldn't have been or should not if he hasnt..

Re: boxing news-tyson-atlas/ nelson says stallone isnt hof'er.
well evidently he does since he isHorse wrote:Who cares about what Atlas has to say about anything? Does he have any credibility left?
1)the mouthpiece for espn friday night fights and we have to listen to two hours of him every week
2) he fronts espn classics greatest hw series where he and bert sugar make judgement on the greatest hw's
3) he has a column in boxing weekly
otherwise i totally agree with you atlas's disrespect to tyson and especially his disrespect to fighters in
general the way he talks so often of them not having courage or a strong mind is ludicrous, since this pseudo doctor and self appointed authority himself didnt have a strong enough mind to turn pro and ignore a little back pain
he loves to steal the thunder from his fighters such as when moorer beat holyfield. All we heard wa how great his talk in between rounds was and that swung the fight. Last i knew talk never won a hw title fight.
Moorer was once a destructive violent young man who had the potential in 91 to go on to be a hall of fame hw. Under atlas teddys constant bullying and mind games led him to becoming one of the most disapointing hws of his generation and a totally unconfident wreck.
Re: boxing news-tyson-atlas/ nelson says stallone isnt hof'er.
Some good points Mugabi but I think Moorer went as far as he could as a Heavyweight, in that era, with his chin if he fought as agressively as he did at Light Heavy he still wouldn't have been the dominant Heavyweight of the period.mugabi wrote:well evidently he does since he isHorse wrote:Who cares about what Atlas has to say about anything? So what you are saying is that somone tried to molest a child in your family then you would have good things to say about them?
God boxing fans can be nuts at times!
BTW I agree with what you are saying about Tysons achievments though.
Razor Ruddock was a young hungry, angry powerfull heavywieght and that alone blows Teddy's argument out of the water.
Re: boxing news-tyson-atlas/ nelson says stallone isnt hof'er.
saxon....if Atlas cant do the job he is paid to do and be objective when he comments on tyson he shouldnt comment on Tyson iat all..........rrespective of what a 13 year old tyson allegedly said to atlas's 11 year old niece. The fact Atlas continues to comment on Tyson and is so biased and unfair ,shows his lack of objectivity and candour....his personal reasons are no excuse and its the fans that are ripped off by a so called expert not declaring his prejudices against Tyson based on their shared past prior to offering his so called expert opinion which is supposed to be unbiased..............is that such a hard concept for you to understand....my god boxing fans can be nuts!

Teddy Atlas has declared the problem that he has had in the past with Mike Tyson in his book "From The Streets To The Ring" which is there if you find it so why he needs to come out in public again and what happened when he went to deal with it with a gun and as a result got shipped out by Cus D'Amato, unless you feel that we are not getting the whole truth about the incident.
Re: boxing news-tyson-atlas/ nelson says stallone isnt hof'er.
Don't forget Atlas' big piece in BN stating "Margarito will hammer Pacquiao because of the punches I saw Clottey land on Pacman, don't forget where you read it"
Funnily enough, he didn't mention the actual outcome in his next column

I agree about Tyson to an extent. He lost everytime he came up against a great fighter, so his place in the HOF is questionnable.

Tyson only lost when he was in self destruct mode. At his peak he completely dominated the division, and was often debated as to whether he was the best HW ever. The man could eat lightening and shit thunder!!!!Karl Jade wrote:I agree about Tyson to an extent. He lost everytime he came up against a great fighter, so his place in the HOF is questionnable.
There is no question of his worth in the HOF.
Re: boxing news-tyson-atlas/ nelson says stallone isnt hof'er.
well his conduct in and out of the ring makes me question it and I am a great admirer of his skills.
Lennox is in correct?

i thinnk tyson is overrated and agree that he fell short against the very best he fought....but tyson without any shadow of a doubt deserves to be in the HOF.jonoevansla wrote:Tyson only lost when he was in self destruct mode. only Ali
i've got an old paper somewhere from Febuary 3rd 1990.....the front page is divided into two...half is concerning the release of Nelson Mandela from Ellis Island in SA...the other half is dedicated to Tysons loss to Buster Douglas...that was the power of the man's charisma.
