Didn't Ricky burns and degale sell less than 1000 tickets in Scotland not very good for a world title fight and a olympic gold medilist. (get back in your cage boxingchat)
Quite sure they sold 3,000 tickets, but were expected to sell 4,000

You know, he's actually been promoted- you wonder how much 'promoting' actually goes on sometimes!
Getting a fighter to 27-0 and fighting for a spurios title isn't really promoting! That's managing.
Getting a fighter to sell a huge amount of tickets or gain exposure throughout the uk is 'promoting'.
Or am I confused?
Agree with what your saying. The problem when you have too many fighters you cant give them all equal exposure Kell suffered from this in the past.
Exactly, I agree- but don't then call yourself a great promoter if your simply running up numbers at the expense of raising profile! It's just a numbers game for some it seems! 15 fight bills, little quality, little sense of relevance or progression, little to make me care about any particular fight or fighter on the undercard!
Honestly I don't envy all the squabbling and two facedness but if I were to be at the helm of a boxing promotion I reckon I could do a lot more to raise people's interest! Maybe I'm naive but there seems little innovation out there!
I did a great little study/assignment for Frank Maloney and apparently sky liked it- but they can't have liked it that much! Least were moving in the right direction!

Frank Maloney does give value for money as there is usually quality fights on the undercard. Promotors need to work in the sports interest now by delivering the best fights. Was that the assignment where you were asking questions on here?

To play devil's advocate a bit, the numbers at the O2 show flies in the face of your original post. DeGale-Groves was a massive fight here in the UK and a lot of that was down to DeGale's profile. So he's been promoted, no?
Ricky Hatton got a run of wins but also had the profile so I guess bona fide promotion is being able to achieve both a winning run and a bit of public recognition, and this should probably be thrown into the promotions thread in order to give an idea of what we mean by promotion.
Not having a go at you, Jeff, just feel that in the rush to fall over ourselves and credit one group of people for things whilst chastising another we're in danger or making ourselves look fickle, stupid, biased and incapable of objectivity on this forum as we judge some people positively by one set of criteria and have a go at others using an inverse version of the same criteria.
I've been guilty of this myself in the past.
Anyway, I'm pleased that Kell's selling out for the right reasons, it is good for him, his family and his new organisation and should be viewed in that context.
Although I'm a little miffed that Dan didn't resurrect my old thread and get me a few more hits. Only kidding, Dan's a good guy!
But how many would go back for a big fight after only one competitive fight on the bill that is question I will think twice about going to such a big venue!

No your right mate and I did consider that before I posted, hatton I think was a great example of what could be done but at the same time what happened to Wayne Alexander, witter, foster jnr, Derry matthews, Paul smith, Steven bell- really talented lads who lacked any real profile outside of the hardcore fans
The numbers game clearly works but if you applied innovation to the numbers then I think things would improve!

Yep it was its coming on for a year old now and guess who the top fighters were that people wanted to see on telly?
But does public appeal strike or can appeal be generated using different methods? I didn't really care much about kell brooks career up until now, suddenly I'm half interested?! Maybe that's just me but I've watched about 5 of his fights this week.
Wayne Alexander was unbelievably exciting 99% of the time- a top, fringe world class fighter. To see his 25 odd fight career play out on undercards up and down the country seems a real waste of talent!
Don't get me wrong he's lots to be proud of but how could he not be a star? How could he not be must see? How could he get such little airtime when his fights guaranteed excitement.
Same with calzaghe he almost arrived at super stardom by accident, and so late in his career too- one minute he's a 38-0 moderately tested paper champion, next he's an all time great two weight world champion- then he's gone! Crazy!

I just seem to be latching onto your posts today like some nagging bride. Got up on wrong side of bed, found a rip in my Barca top, sore hands, had a flu during training, couldn't get it going in the early rouds etc. etc.
In other words, I'm away to walk Marvin before I dig a deeper hole for myself.
You just hate me terry... I can sense it in every press of your keyboard. :(

He has got the power to do it 16 knockouts in 23 starts, but N'Dou has never been stopped in his 12 defeats. It is a tough ask Bomber, but if he does it will cement his position in the top 10 at Welter.

Yep. I don't normally make predictions, but I've got a feeling N'Dou gets stopped within 6.
N'Dou is tough as teak though, if Brook does stop him it would send a big message out to the top 10. Personally I think brook will ahve to settle for a tough points win over a wily old opponent who knows how to handle himself.
PS You are the one who started the thread - "massive support from Sheffield fans"
Does he want support from elsewhere in the UK or is he going to do a Witter and keep selling out, or trying to sell out, small hall shows and little stadia in Yorkshire?
I'm curious. How far can he go in your (blinkered!) opinion Danny boy..... :)
