barry, you have reintroduced both sense and sensibility to the forum.
Some will take umbrage with your Liston remarks. But he is a bit over rated.
However take a close look at the fight he had right after the Ali fights. He does not look like he's lost that much, and he dominates his opponent. AND he is moving precisely the way he did in his previous outings. All his good technique and power on display, the same moves that did him no good against Ali. It becomes clearer and clearer that he did indeed give it his best on those nights against Ali. It just was not enough, and very early on in the second fight he recognized that fact.
Before you readers get all reactive to my words. Watch the fight I'm talking about. And look at any previous Liston fight. I submit that any non bias viewer would agree that he does NOT look like a "shadow" of his former self. He looks just as "good" as ever. However you would like to define "good".
And I think he was good, but perhaps not great.

No one was supposed to reply to that, im pretty sure G,I knows the little game we play here on Boxrec, someone always replies with "who" when ever Ikes name is mentioned.
Sounds like a great game for men with names like Irene.

Floyd Patterson is very overrated by boxrec. Fighting bums in the 50's beside Archie Moore that was coming from a terrible beating against Marciano and Ingemar Johanson ko him eventhough he won the next 2 matches. but losing after that 2 fights against liston in the 1st round is to much to have him in the top 10.

After the second Liston fight and before the ban, I think he would have beaten any heavy in history.DetroitHxC wrote:I'd say Ali is overrated. There are plenty of guys that could beat him on any given night, yet many people seem to believe he's invincible and hands down the greatest fighter of all time, let alone Heavyweight.

Isnt oldman Holyfield only about 2 years older than Lewis? Tyson is youngerThe 1bangkid wrote:Liston was just a slugger not a great fighter lewis never dominated like tyson and his best wins were aganist a shot tyson and old man holyfield
You can do what you did with ANY fighters resume and make them look crap, so and so was 'shot' or 'old' or the decision was wrong or the other guy was past his peak or the division was weak or whatever, pick any fighter and you could do a 'hatchet job' on their career if you wanted
