I'm surprised you're saying either of them in this context. For example, I haven't seen anyone of here predicting Macklin will beat Sturm while a lot of people recognise Burns' improvement but fall some way short of heralding him as a legend-in-the-making.
The general consensus appears to be that both are Euro-level/fringe world-class and that appears about right, certainly not over-rating them.
It's a good question though and I think I'd probably have to say that Kell Brook potentially falls into this category at the moment based on achievements to date (rather than potential). Cleverley is another one where the jury is still out. And unfortunately I'd have to add Darren Barker's name as I think some on here over-rate him in the context of his ability to hang at world-class level.

Think your deluded if you think the juries out on cleverly and barker both class box/fighters are you pis sed.

Overrated and good/talented/class are not mutually exclusive terms.

Boxingfarmer, if you're going to have a dig, at least made sure you've understood what the thread is about first and you're just making yourself look silly - of course the jury is still out on whether Cleverley will be able to cut it at world-level (and if you check previous posts of mine you'll see I'm a Clev fan). Same with Barker - he's shown nothing to date to prove he'll be able to hang at world level. Doesn't mean they're not good fighters.

i think Andy lee is good. Outside of Martinez I'd give him a good chance at any of the other top middleweights

Ok, ok in my point of view:

Matthew Macklin - The fact that his fighting for a world title and has a boxrec ranking of 12, when in my opinion its very questionable that he is the best domestically. This is what draws me to this judgement. Plus he was very poor and looked very ordinary in his last 2 outings.

Ricky Burns - Has to be the poorest World Champion out there, and with Frank Wa**en seemingly puposely cashing in on these big shows in Scotland by putting him in against weak opposition, then can't see things changing until a unification fight happens.

Have to disagree with your judgements on Kell Brook and Cleverly as at least these 2 have shown potential at being able to cut it at World level. Obviouasly time will tell and the jury may still be out, but with regards to the 2 i mentioned. Have they ever shown us any thing?

Agree, this shouldn't be a top of the bill fight, especially in a big venue like the excel. I think ticket sales will reflect this and be poor.

In many ways I think British boxers suffer the opposite treatment of English footballers.

The footballers are built & hyped up as world class, then when the big tournament comes round they inevitably flop.

Yet when we have a fighter who's any good, they only ever seem to get slagged off and labelled as "overrated". Then if/when they do find success, people STILL don't give them any credit.
