What would London 2012 do for British amateur boxing?

Added incentive, funding, exposure?.......

Also, anyone know the planned site for the boxing? Is it a new build on the intended site somewhere?

Hopefully this thread will still be needed in a couple of hours time

A very good question, after all Britain only sent one boxer to the games in Athens 2004. So should we expect to see a boxer in more than half of the divisions? Surely that is not asking to much of the host participants.

I for one am very proud to see London host the games, and it would be wonderful to see a local come to the fore from London's East End which has produced many great fighters over the years. As an asian it would hearten me even more if that East Ender was a bangladeshi kid as they are very under represented in our national sports.
But whereever the new talent emerges from , it will be great for sport in general.

I remember Euro 96 was a fantastic sporting tournament that really made London buzz, the olympics will be awesome and hopefully make all previous games' seem paltry by comparisom!!

Dont forget that LIVERPOOL will stage the 2008 European Boxing Championships!

Some of the finest boxers in the world will descend on the city in the first week of March 2008, to box in the new 10,000 seater Kings Dock Arena.

As a host nation Great Britain will get some wild cards. If I remember right Greece got six wild cards and they went to qualify to see if they could have more places. They didn't so they got their original six places.

I was wondering about that actually, didn't think you'd get wild cards. So GB would get x amount of wild cards but would not have to or be allowed to compete for anymore than that?
