Colin McNeil Latest Scot To Get British Title Eliminator

Post by bigped »

Colin McNeil will face Taz Jones at Meadowbank on the 23rd of July in a British Welterweight title eliminator.

The 32 year old Fauldhouse southpaw was due to face Gary Young for the Scottish title, but Young pulled out of the contest last week with an injury.

McNeil only turned professional last year and has had only seven professional contests to date, and despite remaining unbeaten he has yet to be seriously tested.

Jones comes to the ring having won eight of his 12 pro contests, although he has been beaten just the once - a six rounds points defeat against Matthew Hatton. Last September the man who is ten years younger than McNeil earned a draw again Craig Dickson after putting the Glaswegian on the canvas in the opening round and also has a points win against Craig Lynch to his name.

Jones‘ biggest scalp to date was against former British Welterweight champion, Neil Sinclair, in Belfast in March. The fight lasted less than 90 seconds, with Sinclair forced to retire with a cut on his forehead following an accidental clash of heads and Jones being awarded victory.

Good luck to McNeil. A big step up for him, but at 32 I'm sure he'd relish the break of a British eliminator.

Things are slipping away from Young a tad. He's had a couple of injuries and illnesses now, and hasn't looked 100% fit in his last fight. McNeil would have been an excellent match-up. Hope he's back in action soon.
