Last Chance Qualifier
Link to the roster: http://usaboxing.org/events/6314
My picks based on what I have seen of all these guys over the years:
108 lbs:
Leroy Davilla
114 lbs:
Adam Lopez
123 lbs:
Gary Antonio Russell
132 lbs:
Tommy Rouque or Ryan Martin. Really a toss up though, lotta good fighters registered.
141 lbs:
Amir Imam
152 lbs:
Anthony Gangemi or Jeremy Fiorentiono
165 lbs:
Daquan Arnett
178 lbs:
Robert Brant
201 lbs:
Frederick Samuels or Joshua Temple
201 plus:
Roberto Morban
Even though I have some of them on my list, Im gonna say that its gonna be hard for those individuals who were out in Co Springs this past week to turn it back on so soon for this tournament. I know Im exhausted and I couldnt imagine having to get back on a plane in a couiple of days.

Re: Last Chance Qualifier
Boxers who competed last week in Colorado could be sharp and really ready to perform especially those who didn't take much punishment. I know that my son is going to Panama on Friday and I think boxing 4 times over the last week will help him. We have a hard time getting quality sparring at times and boxing 4 times really helps him. He didn't take any real punishment so he is going to be ready to go. I know there are other boxers in the same position so they will do very well in Cincinnati.

Re: Last Chance Qualifier
At 141 there is a Leon Spinks listed. Any relation to the former Olympic gold medal winner and HW world champ?
Re: Last Chance Qualifier
For any weight classes that end up having more than 32 boxers who actually register for the tournament, they will have to box an additional day. They will have to box on Saturday, July 9th.

Leon Spinks is his grandfather and Cory is his uncle. This guy has around 40 am fights.JMac wrote:At 141 there is a Leon Spinks listed. Any relation to the former Olympic gold medal winner and HW world champ?
Re: Last Chance Qualifier
Too many to keep track of. Oh well ...
108) Davilla
114) Delgadillo or Simpson unless Simpson moves down which I'm hearing from Chicago is a possibility. Don't know if Lopez is going.
123) Julina Ramirez or Carlos Chavez ... Demetrius Johnson or Edwin Sandoval ... Gary Antonio Russell or Kiun Evans.
132) Roque, Aleem, Montelongo possibly ... I'm thinking Tommy Logan though.
141) 60+ fighters ... Somebody that I don't guess will win it.
152) Shakor Jackson
165) Sippio-Cook, Arnett or Arias.
178) Charles Howard
201) I would like to see Samuels vs. Jekabson match up ... Winner wins it all I think.
201+) Craig Lewis

So they might have to do that midnight thing again like at the PAL?Dennis wrote:For any weight classes that end up having more than 32 boxers who actually register for the tournament, they will have to box an additional day. They will have to box on Saturday, July 9th.
Re: Last Chance Qualifier
I sincerely hope not. I'd like to see some planning so this does not happen. At least, at PAL, the athletes were able to rest before boxing again. Unfortunately, the officials who elected to stay after the championships were over and work the after midnight session didn't get much of a break. So they might have to do that midnight thing again like at the PAL?

USA Boxing would like to make the participants of the Last Chance Qualifier aware that due to the high volume of applicants, the tournament will most likely be extended by one day for the following weight classes: 123lbs, 132lbs, 141lbs, 152lbs, 165lbs, 178lb, 201lbs, 201+lbs. This is subject to change upon completion of registration. Should 32 or less boxers register in any given weight class the schedule will follow as originally planned. The final schedule will be announced at event orientation on Sunday, July 3 at 8:00p.m. at the Ramada Inn.
I guess it's more organized. I just hope that transportation tickets and hotel rooms are sorted out for Saturday.

I train outta the Freeport PAL...
I'm also keeping my eye on that Galeano-Imam matchup...Galeano's style should give plenty of ppl problems...Amir has national experience though...he lost sum fights recently but that may be cause of him struggling to make 141...we'll see what happens tomorrow...

Re: Last Chance Qualifier
Some fights they didn't post the results of yet from the Afternoon...
Suprised to see Alex Martin lose...
I knew Christopher Galeano-Amir Imam could go either way, I guess Amir pulled it out...Amir does have national level experience so I give him a good shot at winning it all although 152 is a loaded weightclass...

Re: Last Chance Qualifier
Not too surprised of the Martin-Jackson result. Shakor is a top 5 152 pounder in my opinion. He is faster than Martin and I think is the only threat to beat Spence right now. He has wins over Pearson, Martin and Grayton.
