He's far from my favourite to watch, but he conducts himself with class and is an excellent role model for boxing. He is the consumnate professional, always in great shape.
Haye hasn't had half the career Wlad has yet, and whilst his fights may be explosive, he's yet to beat anyone to suggest he's the man at heavyweight.
In addition Haye has stated he will retire after this fight, so how will that help the division?
He's lost 3 times. I don't get the Wlad love-in that some people seem to have got lost in.
But for the fact that I am a massive boxing fan and pretty much consume any boxing I can, I would have switched his last 4 fights off halfway through, he is THAT awful to watch.
The ending of Wlad's fights usually bring about a mix of disappointment and relief in me. Disappointed that he can't seem to entertain people, relief that the borefest is finally over. I always watch in the hope that he might be a little bit more exciting, that he might find a real live opponent one day than meeting fatties from America, but in fact he is getting less exciting with age as he takes less and less chances and just grinds people down.
Effective yes, but people supporting THAT over David Haye, I don't understand at all. So he's come over and done a charm offensive and Haye is playing the bad guy, so what, he's a stiff, robotic, dull fighter - THAT is how I judge fighters, it's an entertainment business after all.
I agree Wlad is boring, but over the years, i've gone from downright hating his ass, to apathy, to something approaching admiration. He's rebuilt himself after some devastating losses, and all in all, his career is a very good one, he's had one less fight than Ali had in his entire career already. He's a lot more active than most champs these days, and you cannot blame him that division is piss poor.
I much prefer Vitali though, the guy's a badass, his style is similar to Wlad's but a bit more viscious. He's slowing a bit now, but he used to throw a hell of a lot of punches in there.
Haye is a ballsy guy, and has an explosive style, but I've never really taken to him. I guess it's the badmouthing, and the kind of flash that doesn't grab me. It's a matter of personal taste. He and booth have done very well to get where they have, it's been a real masterstroke in promotion/management.
If you combine wlad and Vitali, you'd have a hell of a fighter.
