USEFUL ONLINE TRAINING RESOURCES

Hi guys,

I thought it might be helpful to share some of the best online training resources I'm aware of in the hope that you'll find them useful:

Crossfit
I apologise in advance here, as I know I go on about crossfit a lot, but that's purely because I've found it to be the best overall fitness programme I've ever encountered and the amount of free information it provides online is phenomenal. It breaks down into a few different areas:

www.crossfit.com - The main site has everything from a 'workout of the day' (WOD) through to nutritional advice and video coaching.

http://www.crossfitbrandx.com/index.php ... wforum/16/ - Brandx has scaled-down versions of crossfit's WOD, so you can find a workout that fits with your current fitness level. Consequently it's a great entry point into crossfit

http://www.board.crossfit.com/ - The discussion board is a brilliant resource for a number of reasons. There's great expert advice on everything from injuries through to techniques and you can even post videos to get feedback from others in the digital coaching section.

http://www.crossfitendurance.com/ - As the name suggests, it's a variation on the main site that focuses more on WODs for those seeking to improve their endurance levels.

Gymnastics
There aren't many fitter people in the world than gymnasts - stamina, strength, agility and flexibility, those guys have it all, so it's definitely worth considering elements in any training routine.

http://gymnasticswod.com/ - Similar to crossfit, in that it gives you a different workout-of-the-day every day. Again, it has good video tutorials.

http://gymnasticbodies.com/ - as above. Some inspiring stuff in the blog frequently and good video library.

http://www.beastskills.com/ - All about bodyweight strength training, so great for those of you who can't afford or get to a gym (or who don't like gyms!). Great tutorials that really break things down and trust me, if you can do exercises like pistols and muscle-ups, you're in better shape than 99% of regular gym users.

Other general fitness-related resources

http://rosstraining.com/blog/ - More fantastic training resources ranging from video tutorials through to a dedicated boxing section - http://www.rossboxing.com/thegym.html

http://www.dragondoor.com/ - Describes itself as the premier site for kettlebells, strength, conditioning, flexibility and advanced fitness resources. Enough said! Again, kettlebells are a great option for those who for whatever reason won't have access to a gym.

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/ ... ength_Wiki - As many of you already know, Starting Strength is regarded as the bible of strength training, but this site is a brilliant option for those who either can't find or can't afford the book.

http://www.mensfitness.co.uk/- Feel obliged to give it a shout out as my friend is the Features Editor, but there is some good stuff on here, particularly in terms of the video content.

I'll add any more I may have forgotten, but that should be enough to keep some of you occupied :TU:

Awesome site mate, It can suggest the perfect stack that suits you and your aim in training whether its fat loss or muscle gain, and it also includes a wide range of different types of eating plans aswell.

My advice is to keep it simple. The likes of crossfit and gymnastics can do more harm to a boxer than good. Crossfit in particular has a very high injury threat. You want quality from the boxers in gym time i.e on the mitts and tech sessions. And if they are stiff or slightly injured all the time through their strength work then the boxing sessions will suffer.
Most strength and conditioning coaches dont know a thing about boxing. Do your gym sessions and throw in a circuit afterwatds. And sort out a running plan with your boxer also. Job done. Dont let these morons ( personal trainers and strength coaches ) dictate to you.

Thanks for resources, I have started box trainings about 1 year ago with personal coach (more to improve my body) - go twice a week, and now I feel that I need to study online a bit, to learn lessons, watch videos, and so on

That's a rather old fashioned view these days.

Most amateur, and clearly pro, boxers have S & C coaches that use weights to make them stronger and achieve better conditioning.

When a boxer has a fight coming up then obviously the S & C coach coordinates with the boxing coach in order to avoid, or at least limit, the problems you mention. Once the S & C coach has worked with the boxer for a while this gets easier.

In between fights the S & C coach can become more expansive in his approach but has to make sure that the boxer uses perfect form to avoid injury and to keep limiting hypertrophy so that the boxer doesn't experience problems making his/her weight division - except if they're a pro heavyweight or amateur super-heavy of course.
