Haye and Booths 'tactics'

Post by dbf »

A lot has been made out of Booth's gameplan for the Klitschko fight, and how it will be something that Wlad has never seen before.

Any ideas what it will be? Looks like in the public workout yesterday Haye was doing pads Southpaw. A red herring or a clue?

The kind fella has also put up last nights behind the ropes.

Turning up in shape is a tactic Wlad hasn't faced in an opponent in a while.

I think the Southpaw thing was just a bluff. But it could be a tactic that may work, seeing how easy Sanders got through with his lefts

Haye looks in awesome shape, and his workout is so professional. By contrast, Wlad looks sloppy, and actually quite a bit older. I wish that meant something, but it probably doesn't.

Haye has a benefit in that he knows what Wlad will bring to the table. Wlad can't quite be sure of what Haye is going to do.

I particularly liked Wlad's workout where he is shadow-sparring with Manny Steward. I'm sure that'll help loads.

I agree, watching Behind the Ropes I thought Wlad's footwork in particular looked awful, and I think this is a huge advantage to Haye

I think if Haye lands some big early punches and all it does is get Wlad's respect, then he is in trouble

Are you sure you're not confusing that with his fight against Valuev :bag:

I was thinking that Haye was planning to get inside Wlad and rough him up ala Hatton v Tszyu but with all the fuss about the ref has changed my mind.

Then I was thinking he would come out southpaw - but having seen the workout yesterday it looks like he won't be doing that.

So, I guess it could be the Valuev tactics or the old rope-a-dope (I'm joking).

Body Shots?

Wlad has abdominal injuries from the past and a High European style guard - may be a tactic to get him to lower his hands for a big right

Hayes body shots are underused imo - i think you could be right,. Barry mcguigan was saying the same thing on ringside. He thought haye would slip the jab crack wlad to the solarplexis then throw the big looping right.

I expect haye to do what he does best, get inside and just throw insane amounts of shots to the head and body, whilst the opponent thinks he's going to be safe to hold onto him. People have been saying that haye cant fight on the inside but i cant recall many fighters holding him or leaning on him without getting hammered. And i cant recall wlad ever fighting on the inside.

Yeah the inside might be key for Haye - takes the reach away from Klit and likely power - but its a dangerous game to play with Klit's superior HW strength. Might be the only way to get through though

If Haye is going to beat him. its going to be with superior movement and angles. Haye is not going to win going straight up and down. He will go around and under the jab, hopefully ripping shots to the body in ones and twos. I expect to see a lot of hooks to the side of wlad's head on the rise from haye. David is exceptional at using the ring. I can see klit's lack of mobility being a huge factor in this fight. Saying that, this could all be over in the first couple of minutes. It's not going to be a carbon copy of his last fight in germany, were he was just basically fighting a sitting duck.

What I would like to see is David Haye putting the pressure on early doors. I want to see klit going to his corner after the 1st round looking pale!

Klit leans backwards with his left hand low as defence ive noticed.
I am reckoning haye is going to exploit this or try and catch him when hes leaning back.
Klits defence isnt much apart from keeping people at bay.

I am going for the bodyshot option as well, because Wladimir K keeps such a high guard he is going to present quite a big target for David Haye and I reckon that Haye is going duck inside that long jab of Wladimir K's and unleash fast combinations to the body with a few upper cuts to the head to try and crack open Wladimir K's defence to land that killer shot on Wladimir K's suspect. Okay Vitali in today's Telegraph here in the UK tried to dismiss the talk about his brother's chin, but the numbers do not lie as Wladimir K has dropped 11 times in his career and I reckon you will get very good odds on Haye making it a 12th or even 13th time if Wladimir K gets up after being sent to the canvas for the first time in the fight early on.

I do think that Haye will jump on Wladimir K early and fast and not give him a chance to settle and establish that utter ramrod of a left jab that he has used so effective in the last 4-5 years of his reign as the best heavyweight in the world which will end tomorrow night.

I have a bad feeling all this Wlad is chinny talk will go out the window and Haye will simply not stack up to the other punchers Wlad has been surviving. It's something about the way Audley took his shots, I mean Audley has no chin but he managed to ride a few of those shots, he took some monsters before he finally went down, and when he did go down he wasn't blasted by the last shot, he was just overwhelmed by the onslaught and collapsed, whereas light punching Michael Sprott marmalised him with one left hook!

Don't write off Haye landing a bomb, Wlad walking through it and Haye freezing.

Can't wait for this now, I can't concentrate at work, to quote The Day Today I am literally bursting with war.

Sprott landed an awesome shot on Audley, and Audley didn't see it. Haye didn't land anything like that. I think Wlad could cope with glancing blows from Haye, but if Haye lands flush then Wlad's offence will shut down.

Very different type of shots there, Haye was on the attack and Harrison was covering up and trying to survive. Sprott picked up a shot from his boots with his eyes closed, hoping for the best and it was never seen by Harrison
