Billy Costello RIP

Post by Old bones Ian »

Sad news that former WBC light-welter champion Billy Costello passed away from cancer, only aged 55.

Billy retired with a 40-2 record, he won the title against hard punching Bruce Curry, and made 3 defenses before losing in 8 against Lonnie Smith.

Costello's fight were always good to watch, and he
beat some good champs like mamby and Haley, they were
tough fights and it took it's toll on him, lonnie smith was
in the right place and time to take the title from him... RIP Champ.

Good article about Billy here, shows that he was a class act outside of the ring as well

Billy looked great against Arguello - until he got nailed. It will never erase two giant facts: Costello was a solid world champion and a classy human being,
