From what I understand the last one came with 30 seconds left and he was winning.JMac wrote:If his mouthpiece was just hanging out and did not come all the way out and the ref DQ'd him, that is BS, especially in the semi's. Yeah he needs a better mp but DQ...that's wrong. Like I said, ref's think people came to see them. It drives me crazy when they do that crap.DCAmateurBoxing wrote:I've never seen it come out ever. That's a crappy way to lose but I told him we are going to get a custom one next week!! That really sucks but those are the rules and you have to learn from all experiences. This was a new one though.T Duquette wrote:Mike Reed got dq'd for losing his mouthpiece 4 times. It wasnt getting punched out, it just must not have fit properly. He was up too

Worst decision of the tournament. 132 female semi Qween Underwood vs. N'yteeyah Sherman. Sherman clearly won, despite only having 10-12 bouts.

In the Louie Byrd fight, if it was a pro fight Louie won, but it was an amateur fight. Carlton kept landing "Scoring" blows. It was a fair decision.

From what I hear, it was tied after the 2nd Round so it came down to the last round. So, when I see the video, I just want to see that round.clarkringone wrote:In the Louie Byrd fight, if it was a pro fight Louie won, but it was an amateur fight. Carlton kept landing "Scoring" blows. Re: US Nationals 2011 results
I hope that's a testament to the new system and judges actually agreeing on a scoring blow. Higher scores were expected since the window was out of judges needing to be quick to push a button and now boxers are getting credit for scores. Watching a bout full of landed/scoring blows that ends up being scored 10-9 over a 9 minute bout was getting frustrating for me as a fan. I'm hoping that the right boxer wins more often now. It's not going to be perfect, but the goal is to put our best team in London. . .champion wrote:ok i c just wondering alot of his fights been close lately thanks

This what I know on the New scoring system:DCAmateurBoxing wrote:I hope that's a testament to the new system and judges actually agreeing on a scoring blow. Example:
R1
---- J1 J2 J3 J4 J5
R ----7 6 6 2 15
B ---- 3 4 3 9 12
R2
---- J1 J2 J3 J4 J5
R ----2 1 1 1 2
B ----10 11 11 11 10
R1
19 / 3 R = 6
10/3 B= 3
R2
R = 2
B= 13
after 2
R=8
B= 16
If I am wrong please let me know
Re: US Nationals 2011 results
This is correct. For red corner the 7,6,6 judges are selected as they are the most similar.This what I know on the New scoring system:
Example:
R1
---- J1 J2 J3 J4 J5
R ----7 6 6 2 15
B ---- 3 4 3 9 12
R1
19 / 3 R = 6
10/3 B= 3
The blue corner, again, 3,4,3 are most similar.
This one is NOT correct.R2
---- J1 J2 J3 J4 J5
R ----2 1 1 1 2
B ----10 11 11 11 10
R2
R = 2
B= 13
Red, the most similar is 1,1,1 or 3/3=1
Blue, the most similar is 11,11,11 or 33/3=11
So R2 is R=1, B=11
Soafter 2
R=8
B= 16
If I am wrong please let me know
R1= 6:3
R2=1:11
After two rounds we have 7:14
Basically, you use the most similar selection of three judge scores. If there are more than one similar score, THEN you apply the trimmed mean (drop high, low, take average)
So for example, let's say R3 had for red
3,3,4,5,5
This would have TWO similar scores: 3,3,4 and 4,5,5.
Therefore you would then drop the high, drop the low, and get 3,4,5 = 12/3 -> 4.
Re: US Nationals 2011 results
The idea of the one second window was to try and stop biased judging and it certainly helped but with some judges lightning quick and others dead slow, the scores wern't registering or clusters were not near as effective as single shots. The new system should be fairer to the boxers but only if the judges are unbiased.
Re: US Nationals 2011 results
Unbiased and judges is the big IF, especially on the international level. Crooked judges have always been around no mater what system is used. They tend to come from the same parts of the world which I won't mention. AIBA only gets rid of them when it is convenient for them.donnellon wrote:The idea of the one second window was to try and stop biased judging and it certainly helped but with some judges lightning quick and others dead slow, the scores wern't registering or clusters were not near as effective as single shots. Re: US Nationals 2011 results
When I was testing the updates to the scoring system, I tried to 'cheat' if you will.
Obviously it's hard to really figure out the best way to game the system when you only have it for a few weeks, but I couldn't really think of any good way to do so.
But here were my thoughts:
a- any single biased judge being blatant would get thrown out as his scores would not be used in either a similar or trimmed mean score.
b- a single biased judge being subtle (i.e. a point or two extra for their guy, a point or two less for the other guy) in theory might have his scores counted BUT only if they were in line with existing judges.
c- If the score goes to a tie breaker, then yes, a biased judge will have an effect because they use the raw individual scores from all judges. But since you can't predict whether something will be a tie breaker, you can't consciously try and cheat for a tie breaker. Besides, for a level 2 tie breaker, they poll the judges anyway.
So that said, if you want to try and offset any cheating, I'm guessing you'd want to try maintain a point gap between you and your opponent of about 4 points. Then again, you always want as big a point gap as possible anyway, so this is just stating the obvious.
