I mark a few A level papers and one of the questions was 'Can it ever be right for one nation to interfere in the affairs of another?'

Many of the answers showed (understandably but regrettably) that there is a general belief that America invaded Iraq because Iraq were responsible for 9/11.

Bush has made no progress whatsoever in getting to the real men behind it.

France voted against Iraq invasion because we think its unfair to invade someone for false reasons and murder innocent people...that's all...and by the way France has also had explosions in its subway 10 years ago at St Michel station that did hundreds of victims by an islamic terrorist group...

That's not going to help. There are UK-made weapons all over Iraq as well.

The French can take the moral high ground on Iraq, although they may not have the best record in history for invasions of various nations. But as a Brit I have to say that historically we don't come off on that score too well either. The Americans are hardly lily-white.

'You must have looked in the wrong places' sounds like a child saying 'ner ner, I'm in a secret club and you're not'. Clearly this is a battle being fought with weapons but a war being fought in minds. If they have evidence that can change minds, that has to be the most powerful weapon. Unless they don't.

Anyway, no real proof this was Al-Q anyway, although it looks like it...

I have heard we or Italy will be next but I dont want to change my everyday life because of some threat that might not be true. And it not like the international terror fighting orgs. cant do their jobs, they prevented an attack on Paris and also in a couple of other places. They can prevent the first 49 attacks but not number 50.

Seems like the original olympics thread is gone so Ill post it in here. Softball & Baseball is off the 2012 programme and it will be either golf, karate, rollerskate hockey the 7man version of rugby that will take its place on the programme.

Balls to golf (ho ho, do you see what ... never mind) and rollerskate hockey can fck right off, but karate, squash and rugby all have way more countries participating than baseball and softball.

Baseball would be a proper waste of time. Very specialised and large stadium with four people watching three countries decide the medals.

Actually, I don't think any sport should be part of the Olympics unless an Olympic gold is the ultimate in that particular endeavour. So I'd get rid of tennis and soccer as well. Try out rugby (and another one, ho ho) etc but if they don't cut the mustard within a couple of Games, get rid of them as well. No point having some people along for a jolly while the hockey players, say, are busting their nuts to win in their own minority sport.

Maybe it could make the same argument as I assume are made for archery, shooting (ie. the skill more than the athleticism) but I think golf would be rather a poor choice.

I'd go for karate or rugby probably. Not sure how squash holds up on the world scene - I'd argue you'd want the new sport to be as appealling and as widely-played accross as many countries as possible.

I think the fantastic world of darts are still serious about trying to get that into the Olympics. That would be quite a spectacle. Building a purpose-built pub for the event would be brilliant.

Just saw a sports program where they had something about rollerskate hockey. It was about FC Barcelona, they won the spanish league and the european cup. In europe its mostly played in Spain and Portugal.

Well it's all irrelevant now, as the IOC have voted not to replace baseball and softball. (squash and karate were the two shortlisted before being rejected)
