Geale's next fight
Geale's next fight
Looks like Dan will be taking it easy until the eliminators for the IBF MW are done.

Re: Geale's next fight
Albert seems to have a pretty solid record. Do you want Geale to fight a world champion every time he gets into the ring?
Have a look at what goes on overseas. Chris Arreola is the no 3 heavyweight in the USA and no 10 in the World. In his next fight he fights Friday Ahunanya, who was beaten by Cisse Salif in his last fight. Salif's first win in nearly three years!

Re: Geale's next fight
I am not complaining, just making a comment.
He is, as I have said, taking it easy compared to Martinez etc, which I have no problem with. Ithink he should take it easy and get some coin and exposure in Aus before going for an all out megafight with a Martinez

Re: Geale's next fight
In reality, it's not a soft, soft option and Geale needs a couple of fights like these in betwen the last 2 fights he just had.
I believe this guy will go on to be our most decorated Middleweight, given the fact that he's our only real champion at the weight.
Howevr i don't believe as of yet he even belongs in the same ring as Martinez, but i believe that may change in year or two given the right prep and right fights.
Small steps IMO, even tho this is a step down from his last 2 opponents.
I think its great he's back in the ring this early as well.

Re: Geale's next fight
it was always gonna be this kind of opponent. Considering his last two fights its alright
Re: Geale's next fight
Its gonna be hard for Geale to get big fights with the top guys because he is basically unknown in america...would love to see a Geale vs Chavez Jr or Sergio Martinez fight!! ![[icon_witsend.gif] :witzend:](./images/smilies/icon_witsend.gif)
Re: Geale's next fight
All of a sudden this is a title defence. What's going on?
By the way, holding an IBF world title overcomes not being known in the USA. When you have a world title belt from one of the top 3 organisations people want you.

Re: Geale's next fight
Geale is entitled to an optional defence as long as his opponent is ranked in the top 15 in IBF middleweight rankings.Brute wrote:All of a sudden this is a title defence. What's going on?

Albert is currently ranked 14. Daniel has stated several times that he is determined to treat boxing as a business and set him and his family up. I dont expect to see him in with the likes of Martinez any time soon.
Re: Geale's next fight
How about the WBC regular champion, Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr, whose next defence is against Peter Manfredo Jnr, the same "Latin Snake" Sakio Bika cleaned up a few years ago?hearns wrote:Geale is entitled to an optional defence as long as his opponent is ranked in the top 15 in IBF middleweight rankings.Brute wrote:All of a sudden this is a title defence. Sergio Mora is The Latin Snake.
Re: Geale's next fight
He may well be, all the "contender" fighters seem to have silly nicknames.
Meanwhile, this goes back to being a 10 round fight. Does anybody know what is going on?

Re: Geale's next fight
If you are talking about the Geale v Albert bout, it seems to me it is Geale's optional defence. Schedule states IBF middleweight title over 12 rounds. Has it been re- scheduled to a 10 round non title??Brute wrote:He may well be, all the "contender" fighters seem to have silly nicknames.

They changed it again. I give up. ![[icon_knockout.gif] :KO:](./images/smilies/icon_knockout.gif)
Re: Geale's next fight
Crikey, how's Albert in any top 15?
Re: Geale's next fight
Only just. The IBF ranks him 14.
On the plus side he has won a lot more fights than he has lost.

So has Eric Esch.Brute wrote:Only just. The IBF ranks him 14.

It's who he has beat that matters, Brute.

Re: Geale's next fight
he did get cleaned up by kirkland in one. Its hard to get exited about this one but as long as it leads up to something better im not to concerned. Geales team should have offered ishida a fight
Re: Geale's next fight
I remember Butterbean coming out here and being beaten by tent fighter Baden Oui. I hope Albert puts up more of a fight than Esch did.Giancarlo wrote:So has Eric Esch.Brute wrote:Only just. The IBF ranks him 14.

Was the Esch - Baden affair sold as a title fight?Brute wrote:I remember Butterbean coming out here and being beaten by tent fighter Baden Oui. I hope Albert puts up more of a fight than Esch did.Giancarlo wrote:So has Eric Esch.Brute wrote:Only just. The IBF ranks him 14.

Re: Geale's next fight
No. Butterbean was originally slated to fight Big Bob Mirovic. Chickened out when he heard of some of Bob's efforts.

Bob, for all his limitations, was head and shoulders above Esch in boxing ability.
Re: Geale's next fight
What put the wind up Butterbean was that Mirovic went the distance with Calloway in spite of a broken jaw. He was not expecting to be facing somebody that tough.
Re: Geale's next fight
Looks as though Geale's Mandatory could be a rematch with Karmazin, he's fighting in an elimanator on October 7 against Osumanu Adama.
Re: Geale's next fight
Karmazin has to beat Adama first. Adama's only two losses have been to super middleweights on points.
Re: Geale's next fight
I''d love to see Geale fight Gregor Proska. Proska just stopped Slyvestor in three rounds.
