Also - unless you're intending to put in incredible amounts of graft, don't expect to make much if any money from it.

I did for 4-5 years, I was writing 10,000 words a week for maxboxing, and they never paid me a brass farthing.

I've just started up again, but am getting paid, admittedly its pocket money - but it's nice to be able to get SOMETHING back.

Well I am involved in Boxing, I film most Amateur shows in London, Film Pro shows of Maloney, Matchroom, Goodwin, Helliett, so I am pretty lucky to be in that field..
and I did hold 5 Licences with the BBBofC

James is spot on.

There is no better way of getting into it then getting around the gyms, interviewing boxers and getting pieces out there.

The money is naff but if you stick at it long enough and build enough contacts you can make a modest living. I started out like most other boxing writers on the net but plugged away and now after four years 30% of my income comes from sports writing, I'm a qualified journalist and a member of the NUJ. However, most of the money I make out of boxing is from small unglamourous jobs you won't at first notice. Most of my writing is done for the love of it but I make money helping run a well known promoter's website, editing and updating another site and woking alongside an association. I also cover semi-pro football at regional newspaper level.

I would love to go back 12 14 years & given unlicensed boxing a swerve, give up fags & booze & gone in as the home fighter & tried to build myself as a winning boxer. That said in my job as a journeyman I get to box top lads on top shows. Very content in the fact I'm one of our top journeyman. I will deffo join forces with my bro & build a big camp of fighters. Maybe put on a show or two. Hundred fights is my goal for now though

I think it would be a double edged sword. A lot of people in the sport genuinely love it but their ardour is constantly tested by the sport itself and the ins and outs of it. A job in boxing is seen as a dream but is likely to be a nightmare.

It is similar to picking up a hooker in a moody club, getting her home, stripping the make up, wonder bra and finery from her and realising that she is 60+, with a pudendum as wrinkled as an old person’s elbow and stretch marks that resemble some archaic water divination map.
