That toe...
Re: That toe...
as a medical man, i was disappointed with hayes 'toe' comments. if he had had it injected, then bupivicaine (marcain) is the drug of choice, this local anaesthetic lasts about 4 - 6 hours, making the toe excuse laughable really.

In fairness a broken toe is a bastard and if he'd pulled out then he would have got derired for ducking.

Re: That toe...
So there was no back injury, it was purely a monetary concern? And this time the money is good enough to soothe the pain of his toe, so he goes ahead with it. He made his choice but I just don't like all this 'I lost due to the toe' I', not saying it would not have been a problem for him but think back over all the other fighters and athletes who have won competitions and bouts with worse injuries, or lost and not effectively gone to the world 'look at me foot! look!'Final round wrote:See above@matt___s wrote:Didn't he cite a back injury in 2009?Final round wrote: you mean when setanta went under?

Yeah his purse was coming from the setanta deal.@matt___s wrote:So there was no back injury, it was purely a monetary concern? I agree I don't like the toe injury excuse either but it would play on your mind. Like you say he's made plenty of dosh and
Wlad couldn't get him out of there which completely pissed him off.

I understand what you are saying, but until something happens to you then you can't really tell how something will effect you. I've brroken my little toe on my left foot and it effectef my balance massively, even with pain killers I could not spar. I'm not trying to say you don't know what you're talking about. My besst mate in a consultant orthopedic surgeon and he always says that the reality is often differemt to the theory.rhino222 wrote:as a medical man, i was disappointed with hayes 'toe' comments. if he had had it injected, then bupivicaine (marcain) is the drug of choice, this local anaesthetic lasts about 4 - 6 hours, making the toe excuse laughable really.

I don't know about you but I'm hardly gawping. At least I earn my living without making people wait for no good reason or without trying to convince someone else I'm hard done by. I don't see why the fact that he has been well paid - by us, let's not forget - is a reason to not talk about how he fell short of every boast he made.MachoMan09 wrote:Dave has woken up in a Hamburg hotel room this morning with an extra few million quid to spunk. Re: That toe...
Keith, the only question I'd ask is what about Haye's movement last night suggested to you that his balance was affected in that manner? His mobility seemed fine to me and there was no discernable difference compared to how he performed and moved against Valuev/keithmoonhangover wrote:it effectef my balance massively.

It was very different. Haye didn't use anywhere near as much lateral movement as he did in the Valuev fight.Deserter wrote:Keith, the only question I'd ask is what about Haye's movement last night suggested to you that his balance was affected in that manner? Exactly. I'm sure we don't need a thread of all the athletes that have done more with worse injuries - Kurt Angle, Danny Williams, etc etc.MachoMan09 wrote:I must concede that Dave's post fight interview did remind me of Big Brother's Victor when he announced to the nation that he "had the sniffles".@matt___s wrote:I don't know about you but I'm hardly gawping. Re: That toe...
I'd beg to differ - the only thing significantly changing the dynamics was that Vlad was able to cut the ring off more effectively and move in and out of range. There was nothing in Haye's behaviour to suggest that lateral movement was the issue. In fact, in the post-fight interview he only referenced it being a problem in relation to being able to "explode" forward with the right hand.keithmoonhangover wrote:It was very different. Re: That toe...
interesting. i never knew that. and eubank always stated that boxing was barbaric and that he hated the sport. he fought through it tho. a broken toe. ffs. he was a heavyweight champion.THE MESSIAH wrote:Deserter wrote:Please tell me it wasn't just me who was cringeing during that post-fight interview? When I think about what the likes of Eubank and Benn would go through in the ring, to then hear a heavyweight fighting for the world title saying "my toe was in agony" and then unveiling it to camera was just excrutiating to watch. Lennox's reaction summed it up perfectly.
Now here's the thing, even if Haye is given the benefit of the doubt and we accept it inhibited his performance to a significant degree, i think the post-fight interview was a disaster, as no-one wants to hear a guy who's just fought for the heavyweight title, earned 10 million quid and failed to live up to his pre-fight boasts, come out with something like that.
He did 12 rounds with VK and took some good shots in the process and that's definitely worthy of respect, but he should have just taken the defeat like a man in the interview and not sounded like a schoolboy talking to his mum - the same people that had been cheering him on during the fight were just laughing at him... would have loved to know what the likes of Hagler and La Motta made of it.
I remember Eubank biting off a big piecE of his tongue from a benn punch.
HAYE SOUNDED LIKE A FOOL.

Re: That toe...
You're completely missing my point. I'm not talking about the same volume of movement, I'm talking about the type of movement. He clearly couldn't do the same volume of movement as Vlad's control of the ring didn't allow it. When he did do the same type of movement there was no discernable issue with mobility.keithmoonhangover wrote:Watch this.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SISRW7_XS0 and tell me if you saw the same amount of movement last night.Deserter wrote:I'd beg to differ - the only thing significantly changing the dynamics was that Vlad was able to cut the ring off more effectively and move in and out of range. You're also ignoring my point that Haye himself hasn't suggested that his movement around the ring was impeded, simply his ability to 'launch' his right-hands. Given he was so keen to tell all to the viewers including displaying his toe, do you really think he'd miss the opportunity to say that it affected his lateral movement as well?

Yes. As human's we don't always say everything that's on our mind. Like I said, I'm speaking from experrience. Have you ever broken your little toe?Deserter wrote:You're completely missing my point. Haye was a steam of consciousness in that interview - he was completely articulate and constantly referencing the specific problem of being unable to 'explode' off his right foot. The idea that he'd neglect to mention the other ways it impeded him is just implausible IMO given he was already in full excuses mode.keithmoonhangover wrote:Yes. The argument about whether I have ever broken my little toe is facile as you've yet to show me anything that indicates it was a serious impediment to his movement around the ring last night.

I know the facts mate, it was a crap fight and Haye got beat by the best Heavyweight in the world. I'm nobody's shill, I'm just talking from experience, if I look like a tit then so be it. I broke my little toe years back and it hurt more than when I rolled my car.MachoMan09 wrote:Keithmoonhangover (KMH), Haye sounded like a pussy last night when he officially announced Toegate to the world. i think there was evidence of haye leaping in off that foot many of times to no avail.klit was too big for him. haye has gone up in my estimations because i felt he would of got squashed & he took some decent shots :!: i think haye should retire maybe on more or 2 max :!:

If you haven't experienced a broken toe - and especially the little toe - then you don't know what you're talking about. I could tell you that climbing a mountian looks easy, but when I walk up the mountain I find out what it's really like.Deserter wrote:Haye was a steam of consciousness in that interview - he was completely articulate and constantly referencing the specific problem of being unable to 'explode' off his right foot. I can't show you anything that indicatesa a serious impediment, but I can tell you that it effects your balance, your movement and your motivation.
