Very true! At that stage discretion must be used. There is no perfect ratings system and I even have problems stopping inconsistencies in my own mag's ratings. I'm happy with the British but the Worlds are a nightmare to stay on top of as I'm no statto

Bute is the most overrated fighter in the world. Froch will annihalate him and i wouldnt be suprised if Pavlik could hold it together against him too.

Dirrell hasn't fought in over a year, and has rightly been removed from the ratings.

You are right that Bute doesn't deserve to be there based on his achievements thus far.

I'd say......

1. Froch
2. Ward
3. Kessler
4. Bute
5. Johnson

Froch is probably ahead of Ward at the minute, despite Ward having the W over Kessler, Froch dominated Abraham more thoroughly and also defeated Johnson pretty convincingly, who is a better fighter than Bika.

Bute facing Mendy next is an absolute disgrace.

As a general theme I'm never too impressed with the BM ratings, despite the mag being an excellent read generally..... it's something that they ought to sharpen up on but not something that will make me cancel my subscription.

Overall Froch definitely has a better resume than Ward does, but I see little significance in the fact that Froch won 11/12 rounds against AA and Ward "only" won 10/11. There is a much, much bigger gap in their respective performances against Kessler.

Also, Mendy is Bute's mandatory, so while the bout my be a disgrace, Bute has to take it.

Why not vacate?

Mendy isn't in the top 20 at super middle, Groves/DeGale would batter him.

It would be an impolitic move for Bute give up his belt because doing so would make him a less significant player in the division. If he wasn't a champ he would have less bargaining power and there would be one less reason to fight him. With a belt Bute can negotiate better terms for bigger fights in the future and if the SS winner wants to become an undisputed champ they will have to fight him. Being a "world champ" probably also helps with promotions, media, etc.

Bute was No. 1 before the start of Super Six and has benefited from not being involved - no one has fought and beat him. Unlike other ratings, ours are based on results — fighters have to beat the fighter above them etc, and generally move down after a loss etc. Opinions don't come into it. I don't like opinion-based ratings. I want readers to always know that BM's ratings are based on results, facts, not how we feel when we wake up in the morning, like with the sanctioning bodies etc.

But my own view is Ward, Kessler, Froch, Bute in that order also.

Then how on earth is Danny Green #1 at CW???? I think your rating are good for the most part, but having Green so high is egregious, especially if the rankings are based on results.
