Did anyone earn any money from betting on Haye-Wlad?

Post by Lightsoot »

My pre-fight prediction was Haye TKO11 but I only stuck a pound on this outcome with Stan James. Whichever way it went, I figured Haye would box defensively and that the fight would go long with Wlad building a healthy lead.

I thought there was excellent value in betting that the fight would go over 9.5 rounds so I bunged £40 on that. In addition, I thought Wlad points at 15/4 with Stan James was tempting so I had a few quid on that as well. In total, I won £137.50, not loads, but certainly better in my pocket. I lost £7 betting on various round scenarios, Klitschko 7, 8 and 9, and Haye 10, 11 and 12.

Did any of you bet big and win or (unfortunately) lose last night?

I'm planning on betting sizeable amounts on Fury-Chisora in a few weeks.

I went to the bookies with the intention of putting £100 on Haye but luckily I didn't put all my eggs in one basket and put £60 on Haye 7/4. £10 on Haye round 5 25/1. £10 on Haye round 8 33/1 and £20 on Klit points 9/2.
Outcome £10 up.

Yes, I bet £20 on a Wlad win, so won but won very little!

Got lucky, I was on Wlad but didn't think the 1.55 price was worth going in large on so I backed Haye at evens to take a count.

The bookies rinced the public on this one, no doubt about it, majority of money was on Haye by KO, Wlad by KO and the Under, those who picked the over or either by decision account for such a small fraction of what was wagered.

Over the last couple of weeks I build up to 40 quid spend on this fight.. Lucky enough I put on a UD win for Wlad yesterday, so I got my money back!

I thought Wlad would knock him out late though, so was abit gutted about that.

Unlucky man, I remember chatting with you when the fight was first mooted about the under, I put 4k on the under 10.5 back then and then the fight was cancelled... would it have been the same result 2 years ago? I imagine it probably would.

@riddick, that's what makes me feel a little better. I put 5k on the under, thought it was a sure thing back then.If I had lost that........

I was going to put £100 on a Haye KO, but then the wife reminded me that we have to eat this week, so lost nothing. But very nearly did.

I backed Wlad to win in rounds 10-12.

For the last couple of weeks, I've been telling my brother, who is not a big boxing fan, that Haye was out of his depth and didn't stand a chance. My brother had cleaned up on Betfair laying Andy Murray and when he came round last night to watch the fight, he told me that he'd been totally convinced by my arguments and put the lot on Wlad to win.

The end result: I end up with nothing. Our kid drinks my beers, watches my Sky TV and makes a four figure sum based entirely on British failure. Life is unfair.

I remember you made a post asking what fights went to a decision that everyone thought would end in a KO.

It was always the likelihood that haye would run and not stand his ground.

I bet on the fight to not go distance. Should have hedged with Vlad UD/Points as if the fight did do the distance I couldn't see Haye getting the decision. That's just basic 101 betting when dealing with high stakes but I didn't bite, thought to myself let it run

I bet a small amount on a Haye KO in the first 4 rounds, and a larger amount on a Wlad points win. So did alright!

Put £27 on a Klitschko win. Got the best odds I could find with Skybet but even that wasn't great but a profit all the same.

Fancied Klitschko strong but decided the fight would be over by half way either way, so had been backing both men for a good few months in Rounds 1-6, took a big hit but had been
on a really good run boxing wise so only handed some of the profit back. Was never going to pick up really once the first two rounds were over, I knew my fate.

Will await my next masterstroke with a little more restraint.
