SUMMER RUMBLE @ THE SOL

TICKETS are selling fast as professional boxing returns to the Sunderland Stadium of Light with the Summer Rumble on July 3.

Promoters Phil Jeffries have a Northern Area cruiserweight clash between Sunderland's David Dolan and Birtley's Jon-Lewis Dickinson on top of the bill.

It is sure to be a mouth-watering encounter with Fannan-trained Dolan – who has twice missed out on the British cruiserweight crown against Rob Norton – and Dickinson out to prove who is top dog in the North East.

Dolan said: “This is a big fight for both of us. Whoever wins will be right there in contention for a crack at the British title.

“I've got loads of respect for Jon-Lewis. He's a good fighter, I've sparred with him, but I will always back my own ability.”

Dickinson, like Dolan, is returning from injury confident mood.

He said: “Strength wise and ability wise, I don't think there's anyone to match me in this country.

“I want to get a win against David and go on to bigger and better things. This is a stepping stone fight but a hard fight that I'm really up for.

“Journeymen don't interest me. I need a challenge to get me going and fighting Dave is a great challenge.”

Dickinson will be having his first fight since suffering a fractured jaw against Richard Turba in September 2010.

The 25-year-old is out to re-establish his credentials as one of the country's most exciting cruiserweights after capturing the Prizefighter title in April last year.

Dolan also lost his last encounter after suffering injury during his English title contest with Terry Dunstan last December.

Summer Rumble will be packed with North East talent, the main support being a bantamweight clash between West Rainton's Martin Ward and former British and European champion Ian Napa.

The show will be on an outdoor stage in front of the Stadium of Light's West Stand.

Tickets for Summer Rumble are priced £30 and available from the boxers or from Phil Jeffries by calling 0191 564 0202.

Went to the show today, it was the perfect tonic for last nights disapointment in Germany. Two great fights in Dickinson-Dolan and Ward-Napa. I handfull of prospects, some cracking action and the sun shining in the Stadium of Light. Great day, thanks to Phil Jeffries and the team. :TU:

There was someone filming it Funso, so I hope so. Martin Ward was very impressive in a great little scrap with Ian Napa.
