I think (someone correct me if not) it was Ian McNeilly who dubbed Haye 'a runner with power'. His performance on Saturday isn't that exceptional, that's just how he fights. I have never seen him advance on an opponent, whether cruiserweight or heavyweight, until he's caught and hurt them.

I think Haye always planned to win titles at cruiser, move to heavy and cash out.

He must have known he was a little too small for heavyweight, so he spent most of his time in the lower weights where his physical advantages counted, then moved up, but made sure he didn't face any young hungry dangermen, so his train wasn't derailed. Then, he finally landed the big one, and got the massive payday.

Can't blame him for maximising his earnings, but he won't be remembered as anything approaching a great fighter. Hey, I wouldn't mind his money.

Agreed James. He had a fast tracked career, getting the belts at Cruiserweight the hard way (going to France on a Don King bill) unifying on a Warren bill and then moving up and creating a buzz and hounding Wladimir.

It was all planned very well and you can't blame him for wanting to make some big money quickly but when people look back on his career (if this was indeed his last fight), he lasting legacy won't be anywhere near that of a great.

He didn't dominate Cruiserweight and he beat an average Heavyweight for a version of the title.
