Rau'shee could have boxed in the nationals but since he has already qualified for the Olympic trials, I guess he decided to pass up on the nationals. As for the Pan Am games qualifiers, it was a cluster fvck on how the team was picked to compete in them which can be read on another thread on here somewhere.

The competition is starting a day early. They are having two sessions today. The first at 4 p.m. and the second at 8 p.m. I've been told that there is only one ring and that is probably why they started a day early. Jordan Shimmell boxes Miguel Veliz of Chile at the late session and is the 9th bout so he should box around 10:30 p.m. EST.

Per USAB's web site:
The United States team enjoyed a strong start to the third Pan American Games qualifier on Sunday in Panama City, Panama. Lightweight Toka Kahn Clary (Providence, R.I.), middleweight Damarius Russell (Camp Lejeune, N.C.) and heavyweight Jordan Shimmell (Hudsonville, Mich.) all opened the tournament with first round victories.

Kahn Clary defeated Argentina’s Brian Chavez by a 27-20 in their opening round contest while Russell claimed an 11-5 decision over home nation boxer Gustavo Caicedo of Panama. Shimmell pulled out a 7-6 decision over Chile’s Miguel Veliz to join his two teammates in the next round.

Two U.S. boxers will compete in Monday’s action with light flyweight Michael Benedosso (Fort Carson, Colo.) facing El Salvador’s Juan C. Flores and his U.S. Army teammate John Franklin taking on Jesus Martinez of Venezuela.

52kg John Franklin USA defeated Jesus Martinez VEN 15:11

I am not sure if any of the USA boxers are competing today or not. I know Jordan won't box again until tomorrow.

In the Pedro Sosa bout, the fight was stopped due to a nose bleed. The referee sent Pedro over to the doctor to check out his nose three times before the doctor from the usa stopped the fight. This all happened in about the first minute of the fight. Fans could not even see the blood from the nose and wondered why the bout was stopped. Some did not think the fight should have been stopped.

It's amazing what referees see that fans don't. :o

Good luck to Jordan, Dennis, and the rest of our team. Thanks for keeping us informed. :D

Benedosso, Franklin and Shimmell all have to win their bouts today to advance to the final round and to earn a berth in the Pan Am Games in Guadalajara while Toka Kahn Clary must place in the top three to earn his Pan American Games spot. Russell has already qualified by making it to the semi-finals.

Michael Benedossa lost vs Gilberto Pedroza, Panama 13-16.
John Franklin won vs Felipe De La Flor, Panama 15-10.
Toka Kahn Clary lost vs Wellington Arias, Dominican Republic 9-13.
Damarius Russell won vs Andrew Fermin, Trindad and Tobago, RSCI-3 due to a cut.
Jordan Shimmell lost vs Anderson Emmanuel, Barbados 7-8.
John Franklin and Damarius Russell are both qualified for the Pan Am games.

Jordan had been sick for 2 days and lost 6 pounds and yet he battled the best he could in spite of being way less than 100%.

Franklin and Russell qualified and Toka Kahn Clary may qualify in spite of his loss if he is #3. Team USA will go to Guadalajara with 3 women and 4-5 men. USA Boxing's website says that Errol Spence is qualified but the AMBC site indicates that he is not. My understanding of the qualified boxers:

Female:
51kg: Christina Cruz
60kg: Queen Underwood
75kg: Franchon Crews

Male:
52kg: John Franklin
60kg: Toka Kahn Clary - maybe
75kg: Damarius Russell
81kg: Jeffrey Spencer
91+kg: Danny Kelly
