I agree that the current scene need cleaning up a little although it is dificult to know where to 'draw the line' between qualitiy and traffic.

I am not sure if an open poll is the best way to choose a new Current Scene Mod' as wouldn't this be open to abuse such as people voting for themselves etc?

Agreed thats not needed on boxrec but having an off topic section could keep them out of parts like the current scene.

Frankly no, but when certain people spurt such shite, then there is always gonna be a backlash. But, like others have said, Boxrec should have an off topic forum.

This issue needs attention... From every good poster on this forum, not just ones from the current scene. If things get out of control, the problems will leak over here.

Agreed.

Although us Brits tend to look upon the Current Scene as being a separate entity- IT ISN'T. The threads/posts over there detract from the overall qualitty of the entire site and deter others from joining what should be one of the best (if not THE BEST) boxing forums on the web.

It needs sorting out ........and quickly.

I can appreciate that the mods have a hard job to keep things civil and yet also protect freedom of speech to a certain extent.
The problem with the Current scene is that many of the posters there seem to be from another planet from ours?..... what to do???.
We could always launch an invasion of say 5 or 10 of us from this British forum launching about 2 or 3 threads each on the current scene and there by leaving their 'threads' dead in the water!>.

Always difficult, mainly due to the time thing. Easy for a thread to get swamped if you're relying on British-based posters.

However, I do think it's a bit nifty that North Americans come in here to talk about North American boxing. Especially when we're coming up to summer and a slack period (this weekend excepted). No harm there. It's also nice that the Ay-merry-cans that are here seem to be able to contribute and interract intelligently and thoughtfully.

However, it does seem that the internet is full of special people. I do some admin work on another, US-based forum and there are so many wierdos and idiots that come out of the woodwork at big fight time it's not true. They've solved the problem (or at least gone some way towards solving the problem) by having a reasonably large number of moderators which to be fair they need as the traffic can get very high at time: 200, 250 users is standard when there's a big fight and come start of day in California then there's normally 70-80 guys there. The big lessons gleaned from this experience are that:

Message boards are not a democracy
One strike and you're out for really offensive stuff
Nobody misses people who just post inane stuff all the time
A shot across the bows should be recognised as being a true warning with genuine repercussions.

Now some of the other guys who mod the board can get a little pleased with their power but when you compare it to many other boards, especially those which are visited by many non-niche (ie British / European) fans, then it's fairly well run. Not every poster is George Orwell but the majority talk sense and idiots get put down by the masses because the majority are normal folk. But I would suggest that tougher moderating, and potentially a wider moderating base for Current Scene, may be in order.

Things will be changing for the better from now on. I'm still waiting to hear from some of the other moderators, but sometime this week a thread will go up telling about the new changes, which there won't really be but juust a few new changes it's just that the previous rules will really be enforced from now on. The main issue is eliminating all of the disrespectful bickering and those that do nothing but non-sense and as of right now it looks like one rule will be that if someone breaks the rules first a warning will be issued in that thread, second a warning in thread and a pm and if the person still refuses to comply, they are gone...of course there could exceptions in that someone could be banned after one warning. It will rpobably be around Thursday, or Friday before things go into effect, but the forum will be strightened up!

Mods can only delete or lock threads. The only person that can ban posters is the administrator.

There are a few steps being taken as of now, as Barry has explained.

Beware though, that it will take a long time before the current scene recovers. A board is as good as its members are. So the only hope is to gradually scare away the mindless pricks. Banning left and right will not do any good, That's the approach other sites such as Eastside have embraced, and look at where they're at.

But with the World Cup going on at the moment why dont you lot post in there?
