I know this is a completely redundants issue, but I was just wondering is David Haye still the English Cruiserweight champion?

Who knows? It's an entirely irrelevant title anyway to be honest dreamed up by a promoter as I remember. Personally I still like the old Area titles, and it's nice to see a prospect annexing their local Area title on the way to bigger things - who remembers a 10-0 Ricky Hatton fighting with pride for a Central Area title in 1999? For me an aspiring British fighter should be looking for his Area belt, then British and Commonwealth, followed by European and "Top 3/4" world titles. Most of them are still keen enough to get the British title, which is often accompanied by the Commonwealth, but not many seem to target the European anymore.

There have been some excellent fight for the english titles, i see them as a useful tool in gauging a fighters progress, and the boxers themselves seem keen on them as well.

As Hesketh said the Europeon route seems to be less followed these days, maybe its got something to do with the old soviet countries coming into play , and there being better boxers about, so more risk for a british fighter.

It is getting to the point where we have too many titles though, I agree with that.

Why do people think that the European title isn't targeted as much any more? Also what do people think about the fact that since Danny Williams unified the British and Commonwealth titles there have been very few non-Brits fight for the Commonwealth heavyweight title?

I think it's probably because you generally have to beat someone half-decent to get the title, and then there are mandatories on a regular basis against awkward-looking opponents. This interferes with the general plan these days of feeding your prospect wins until he gets a title shot.

I think that says something about the standard of HW boxing in places like Australia and the African countries that most non-UK based Commonwealth challengers come from. Some of the eligible countries do produce the odd decent heavy, but they tend to then fight out of the US where the Commonwealth belt doesn't mean anything much.

Being very shallow, my particular dislike of the Celtic title is the look of the thing. Did you see Limmond with it? Some disgusting biege number from Top Shop with little plastic shields around it that you have to peel plastic off then etch your name onto with a blunt biro. Awful.
