Ashley Theophane v Jason Cook

Post by dewipowell »

It's happening on the July 23rd show at Wembley and it's a British title defence. Predictions? I'm favoring the challenger.

Ashley to stop Jason late on! But Jason could still pull out a big punch!

It's a fight Cookie can win, but Theophane showed a lot of improvement to beat Daws, should be a cracker

I can see it being nip and tuck early on with both men taking a while to get into it with the early rounds close but around the mid rounds Theophane picking it up with his superior boxing skills and starting picking him off with the jab and bringing in the combinations catching Cook. But I can't see Cook getting stopped and giving it a big effort in the last few rounds taking Theophane out of his rhythm and comfort zone, tightening it up on thr cards to a really close Theophane decision

Cook is 36 been around for a while & had some hard fights so for me Theophane on points with Cook running out of steam but landing some big bombs on the way.

I think Theophane wins this, due to Cook being past his best. Why did Cook pull out against Gavin? Was it weight or injury?

I like Cookie, he always gives value and he's got that BIG equaliser.

Not seen much of Ashley though if I'm honest

I think Ashley went through a period of time being very under rated. From some of the posts I have seen related to him, I think it’s gone a bit too far the other way now. He’s technically sound without being spectacular, often a little slow to start but always in shape and ready for the 12 rounds. He’s not the best domestically but he’s among the considerable number of fighters in the chasing pack at that weight. Best in the country at the weight? No. Top 5? Probably. Top 10? Definitely.

no disrespect to jason cook but i think jason will get beat, ashley theophane has picked the best fight in the top ten to make himself look good,he could of fought gavin, wright, williams, daws but chose to fight a boxer who after 6 rounds is there for the taking,i cant see theophane making another defence after this fight as he will have to fight whoever the board tells him to.

I totally agree with you on that, he's very careful when it comes to choosing opponents. :TU:

I watched Cookie train today and he isn't coming just to make the numbers up. He's in good shape, has sound tactics in mind and knows this is his last chance.

Jason Cook keeps getting these title chances doesn't he! I suppose he deserves it really after the Daws draw, now or never though this is defo the last chance saloon for him. Can;t see him beating Theopane tbh.

Theophane is a good fighter and probably a bit underrated. I think he will have too much for Cook.

I don't feel Cook deserves this chance IMO...maybe he's the only 10 stoner available.

Theophane's on a roll and in form. I see him stopping Cook after 8 rounds or a clear points win. Jason always has that punchers chance, especially with his wicked left hook, but I think that is a long shot.

cook isnt the only 10 stone fighter available, there is wright, williams, daws rematch the fact is ash knew he was fighting on this date and left it last minute to choose a fighter to boxer, out of the 4 boxers here who would you like to see him in with cook, daws, williams or wright?

Cook or Wright. Daws was well beaten & Williams needs to work his way back up

Theophane -Daws was a good fight and would make a welcome return...if Daws wants it.

Whilst I don't enjoy watching Wright too much, he's gett better form than Cook IMO.

Ashley should take this. He showed improvement against Daws & I reckon he's still improving. Cook, however, isn't!
