Charles and Johnson - Natuarlised Australians

Post by p4p1 »

Its 4pm in Perth, Western Australia, I'm standing in the hallway of a famous australian gym Fisting Boxing Club. Only a few people are here but we are all waiting for the same thing, we are waiting for the arrival of IBF Heavyweight champ Ezzard Charles (7-0 5KO's) and Leading contender Jack Johnson (5-2 2KO's). The moment they come through the door the first question is asked, "how did it go?", silently the two top Heavyweights smile and pull out the piece of paper everyone has been waiting to see. They have obtained certificates of Australian Citizenship, Charles later says to me "this is an honour to be recognized as an honour to have this happen to me this is a great country and where i want to raise my kids i will remmeber today as fondly as remember beating Harry Wills to win my title." Johnson smiles and agrees.

It is now time for the real work to begin it is the last day of sparring today as Charles looks for a succesful first defence of his newly won title and johnson looks to beat tough journeyman Gerrie Coetzee in a battle he is expected to win quite handily. The card will take place on the 8th of july at the newly built Fisting Promtions Arena in Fremantle, Western Australia. Guest appearence by the rolling stones before the main event.

Someone out the Aussie Bottlers was due to step up a little. That man was you.

Dempsey will take Ezzard's trinket off him if allowed.

Thought we had to make 3 defences before unification was possible? Or was that rule abolished?

I'm assuming we both make our successful defences.

The 3 defences before unifying rule is in place. I have already asked the Commish about this.

Unification's going to be difficult this season in that case, I reckon. Too many good fighters for people to hold onto titles for long periods.
