Groves v Piotr Wilczewski instead?
Just read that Degale v Piotr Wilczewski hasn't been finalised and that the Pole might be looking to box George Groves instead.

Hope so, it's so wrong for DeGale to get this shot ahead of Groves. Can't believe the EBU would saction it.

would that not piss off Degale bigtime, first Goves beats him in the unpaid ranks, then in the pros and then grabs his Euro opportunity, what next his girl friend ?DougieC30 wrote:Just read that Degale v Piotr Wilczewski hasn't been finalised and that the Pole might be looking to box George Groves instead.

Re: Groves v Piotr Wilczewski instead?
Degale and Warren would be pissed if groves got the fight. Am sure we will find out more soon.
Re: Groves v Piotr Wilczewski instead?
groves should be happy atleast he dont have to relenquish the lonsdale now. it would be wiser to let degale take the lead as he's going places & george can follow behind hoping for a redemption fight once degale strikes gold.
Re: Groves v Piotr Wilczewski instead?
George's best chance of holding a major world title is to win one off Degale IMO.
I honestly don't see George beating any of the top SMW holders right now; he certainly wouldn't be rewarded for boxing 12 whole rounds on the back foot in a worked title bout.
However, if Mr.Degale chooses to apply himself and improves in the way I think he could, then he could pick up a world title inside the next 2 years, particularly if a dominant belt holder emerges from the Froch-Ward-Bute power base.
IMO James is a much better boxer/fighter than George and literally allowed George to steal their last bout; hopefully he will have learned from the experience.
That said, George may well have a mental edge over James and because of this I'd make any rematch 50-50 - despite James' superior skillset. Therefore, it wouldn't hurt George to let Fwanky open a few doors for James (and let's face it, there's nobody better at opening doors at he right time for his fighters) and then come knocking once there's a world title on the table.

Re: Groves v Piotr Wilczewski instead?
The way I see it if Degale can't work out Groves how will he do better than Groves as he goes up the ranks?
Groves is a better boxer and has a better brain than Degale all of this has been proven. Neither of them would beat the top super middle weights yet but there's no way that Groves' best chance to win a major title is to beat Degale again because who's to say Degale would get that far???? Lets not forget that Groves is the younger of the 2 so should improve more than Degale.
As it turns out I see Degale getting a world title through good promoting rather than truly deserving it will Groves will have a better carer fighting the better opponents and steadily building up the skills and knowledge to be an acomplished world champion.

DeGale will go further than Groves. He won a majority decision by one point, when none of the three judges gave the last round (which I thought Degale clearly won) to Degale. I don't think that anything is "proven" after that.

Sports Network nuthuggers out in force then
Groves has beaten DeGale twice. He's done it fighting on the backfoot when he's always been more inclined to fight going forward. Same people claiming DeGale will definitely go further are the same goons who claimed he would KO George in the last fight.

Until DeGale beats Griobves then he is not ahead of him, regardless of belts. Peole still mention Prescott crushing Khan, Kha has moved away but it is still there, it will be even more relevant because they are both British.

I agree, this is outrageous.Finch wrote:Hope so, it's so wrong for DeGale to get this shot ahead of Groves. Can't believe the EBU would saction it.
I thought that a boxer could not challenge for the European if they are coming off a loss. After reading the article on this site, it now appears that the definition is a "bad loss" ! - you couldn't make this stuff up.
This is soon after Kell Brook was stripped of his title - despite previously boxing under the same conditions, although whilst contracted to another promoter.
The common denomintor = Allegedly. He seems to be able to persuade sanctioning bodies to make it up as they go along (always in his favour of course...............)

MURRAY GAVE UP HIS EUROPEAN TITLE FOR THE SAME REASON, MITCHELL COULD NOT FIGHT HIM AFTER COMING OFF A LOSS.
INTERESTING.
Re: Groves v Piotr Wilczewski instead?
Allegedly has invested so much money in Degale with the £multi -million signing fees etc. that he needs to get him to a "World" title and a number of defences against well picked opponents in order to make a profit.
With the number of sanctioning bodies I am sure he will do this - particularly as his favourite World body are not too strict on mandatory defences.

Re: Groves v Piotr Wilczewski instead?
if it did piss degale off so what he isnt entitled to fight for the european title if he cant beat the best in his own country, surely groves is the obvious choice anyway then if groves wins the euro title vacate the british and let degale fight over his scraps.English Wizard wrote:would that not piss off Degale bigtime, first Goves beats him in the unpaid ranks, then in the pros and then grabs his Euro opportunity, what next his girl friend ?DougieC30 wrote:Just read that Degale v Piotr Wilczewski hasn't been finalised and that the Pole might be looking to box George Groves instead.

Re: Groves v Piotr Wilczewski instead?
Some serious DeGale lovers here, Groves surely deserves the shot after beating DeFail. Although in all honesty I believe both fighters will hold a world title at SMW in the next 1-2 years.
Re: Groves v Piotr Wilczewski instead?
Its boxing you don't get what you deserve you get what you negotiate. Allegedly did well when khan lost to get him to a world title looks like hes doing the same with delgale

Of course Groves deserves the shot more than DeGale, but it's up to his promoters to get the fight for him.

Re: Groves v Piotr Wilczewski instead?
It's part of enticing Groves into a rematch asap.
European, British and Commonwealth titles all on the line in a fight which could double up as a world title eliminator etc etc.

Groves has shown, he is at least as good as Degale.
He outboxed Degale and, at the very least, shown he can match him in boxing skill.
Groves will do well, as he has bottle to go with his skill.

See above. Khan has moved away - as in gone past - but some are still mentioning it.
