PAUL WILLIAMS VS LARA SPOILER

Post by THE MESSIAH »

Williams by decision. scores were very close 115-114 114-115 116-113 or something like that.

Sounds as if Williams was dominated and given a real gift.

Not see the fight, but most Polls have Lara 93% to 7% Williams.

Martinez may have ruined him or is Lara a new force?

Absolute fornicating joke of a decision and definitely the front runner for robbery of the year. Williams didn't land a significant punch all night, while Lara couldn't miss with clean, hard left hands. Williams once again got credit for simply throwing a shitload of inaccurate slaps.

Scores were 114-114, 116-114, 115-114 and I've posted the official cards below; once you've seen the fight you will realise that they are nothing less than egregious. Some of the rounds given to Williams were dominated beyond doubt by Lara. I had it 118-111 for Lara and anything closer than 116- 112 Lara is way off. Interestingly enough, I also had Williams losing on points against Martinez and Cintron, and only managing a draw against Margarito. The judges have some major love for him.

I've not seen the Williams bout yet but have read that he really struggles with southpaws. If Lara has been shafted it reflects very badly on the sport.

I have seen the Rios bout and it was a cracker. Rios would be too strong for either Mitchell or Murray and a Rios v Katsidis bout would be a classic.

Seen both fights and another bad day for the sport with the Williams decision. Lara landed left hands at will and around 50% of all power shots.

Rios is a beast. Mitchell & Murray would be better to stay well clear. Katsidis is probably too shop worn now to trouble him. Rios & Arum fancy Barrera next, which would be a slaughter.

That said, Rios isn't going to have a long career fighting the way he does though.

Yeah, his corner told him he needed to get Lara out of there before the last round.

He's way too easy to hit with the backhand punches, especially from southpaws.

It's a good job he's got a decent chin otherwise he'd have six or seven KO losses by now. Ricky Hatton was probably harder to hit than Williams.

The problem with this is nothing will be done about it and in a couple of days all the talking will be stopped and everyone will move on. Even giving a rematch is not enough, because it doesn't take the bogus loss of Lara's record. Williams looked like complete shit.

The commentators were just as gobsmacked as i was when the winner was announced. I'm having a hard time thinking of a bigger robbery in recent times to put it in perspective, maybe Martinez v Cintron? The word gets overused but this truly deserves it.

The commentary team were basically announcing Williams' retirement in the last 3 rounds as Lara continued to bounce lefts off Williams' head. I even thought they were even going a little over the top with all the talk of how this would takes years off his life and he should never fight again and enjoy his money and family such was the beating he was taking.

Boxing scoring is always going to be subjective so it's hard to stamp this out. I suppose the best that can be said for Lara is that if you are going to be shafted on the scorecards then at least it was on an HBO main event that most big boxing fans will have seen/will see so they will all know the loss on his record is bogus.

Williams was dreadful.

It was a no-brainer who'd win when it hit the final bell :-

The Everlast-sponsored HBO Darling managed by Al Haymon Vs the Cuban pauper.

It was always going to be like this. Same as Mathysse always gets jobbed too.

Fight here if your interested

indeed interesting mate :TU:

personally i had Williams drawing with Martinez, but i rewatched the Margarito fight the other day and I was surprised it was MUCH closer than i thouhgt/ than the judges had it at the time. Toni did an awful lot of bodywork in there that didn't seem to get much credit.
