Let's try another one: What was the first fight for which an arena was specifically built?
Probably way off but was it Holmes - Ali? Wasn't a 35,000 capacity arena built in the carpark of Caesars Palace specifically for the fight but I doubt it was the first time it was done.

You don't need google when the questions are easy. BTW, Battling Siki also went by the name Louis Phal. If I hadn't known that, the last one would have stumped me . . . I hope that makes you feel better. :TU:

You guys were about 100 years too late, and in the wrong country.

Answer: 1973 Ring Record Book, p. 136: "The first grand stand ever erected for a fight was that for the bout between Tom Spring and Jack Langan, January 7, 1824, in the outskirts of Worcester, England, seating about 4,000."

Follow-up: Tom Spring had the distinction of being another "first" in boxing. What was it?

Point of law, your honour. Does some extra temporary seating around an existing race course really qualify as an "arena"?

"Tom Spring was the first holder of a world's heavyweight championship to adopt a special fighting moniker. His real name was Thomas Winter."
