I also agree that looking at Gavin's body shape and lack of power at Light Welter, I don't see him going too far past British/Euro level at Welter tbh.

I would love to see Curtis do this, but I do think it's too big an ask. This line made me laugh from Gavin the prick:

"an I am giving u more money an a 2 an half grand bonus if u win which u wont"

Didn't know this fight was being promoted by Frankie Gavin promotions? Didn't know it was YOUR money to give out?
Frankie, you are up your own arse, I think it's great when certain boxers come on here if they are eloquent and down to earth. I don't think you are doing yourself any favours in
what you write on this forum. It's always "money this, money that, I'm the best thing since sliced bread but can't even make a weight", get a grip mate.
It is my money it has all come out my purse it was me who offered it I never got asked for money I agree it's wrong an I have grown I ent making myself weak won't be on this now till after the fight
you're nearly 27 and you're still growing ?????
think he means filling out,or another words doesnt wanna work that extra bit harder to drop 3 extra pounds

Come on; I think that Frankie should make the contracted weight, without a pay off or his promoter threatening to dump Curtis and get someone else more compliant in. Frankie Gavin has been around the weight for years, it's more than possible to grow and put natural weight on well into your 30's.

If Frankie is a welter now he should box welters; he is a class boxer and will go far but there isn't a super lightwelter or mini welter division. It's light welter or welter, same as for everyone else.

I'd prefer Gavin to stay at 147 anyway, use his speed advantage as much as he possibly can.

After all, if we all had our way and we had less weight classes he'd have to fight at 147 anyway..... welterweight is probably the strongest weight class in the history of boxing, if Frankie won a title and had success in that weight class he'd receive far more acclaim for doing so.

He's not built like a mack truck but he's not exactly stick thin, is he?

I'd rather a lad fight at his natural weight and train to improve rather than spend so much time focusing on making weight.

Why, as someone who has always had a problem weight making (you let GB down remember!!) dont you get a grip of it, if you want to progress in the pro game you have to concentrate very hard on your weight loss/diet/nutrition

Why dont you sort yourself out?
come on lads, in all fairness to Frankie Gavin he just grew out of the 60kg lightweight as an amateur, the timing was just unfortunate ! no one wanted to win gold at bejing more then frankie (believe me).
and as much as i agree the 144lb catch weight agreement by fw is not fair now its been scrapped, we have to remember frankie signed no contract for that weight and is now giving money from his own purse to curtis, he has just simply grown more, his intense training as a pro is obviously building more muscle then anticipated, frankie could end up as a light middle !
full respect for curtis for not moaning and getting on with this, but we are going to witness a one sided beating next saturday.

listen up if oscar de la hoya can make 147 after nearly ten years out of the division then surely frankie gavin can make 144 if not then maybe professional boxing isnt for him. if he cant make the weight stop eating crap plain and simple.

I think Woodhouse would fight Gavin at whatever weight, he just wants an opportunity that's all.

I'd imagine he's still frustrated that people see him as some ex-footballer and is desperate to shake that tag, given that 99.9% of pro footballers are fannies, no matter what level they play at.

If Curtis was some rugby player who decided to switch to boxing there'd be nowhere near as many eyebrows raised. I mean, you could imagine a Lee Radford or a Jamie Peacock knocking over a few journeymen. But could you imagine a pansy like John Terry donning the gloves?

Fair enough mate, the point is that if he is a welterweight then he should box other welterweights

Not find a light welter, get him to sign a contract at 10 stone 4 and then a week before the fight tell him that the fight will be at 10 stone 7

As a paranoid / conspiracy theorist, I am not sure that Gavin even has problem making the weight. Maybe it was the plan of Gavin and his promoter that he would box at 10 stone 7 all along, it is just that they didn't tell Woodhouse .....

If Gavin is struggling to make 10 stone 4 over a week before the fight then he must be weighing well over 11 stone today - I wonder what his "walking around weight is" ?

It would also be interesting to see the weights on the night of the fight.

Hmm, not sure Oscar boiling down to fight Manny is a great example of weightmaking - he was a shell of a fighter with no power, no stamina, no movement - a shambolic resemblance of the Golden Boy of the previous 10 years.

That was a one off at the end of his career and did he not have to be below welter for the weigh in and also below a certain weight on fight day

my point is oscar made the weight at the age 0f 36 like a true professional, the fight was made at 147 and he came in at 145 i think. no your right oscar wasnt the fighter he was 10 years previous but gavin hasnt even started his career properly and he is already making mistakes regarding weight.

listen up if oscar de la hoya can make 147 after nearly ten years out of the division then surely frankie gavin can make 144 if not then maybe professional boxing isnt for him. if he cant make the weight stop eating crap plain and simple.

I'll take that as a "no comment" then.
Strange isn't it ? Just wonder what rhetoric would have been used by team Gavin had the boot been on the other foot.

gavin posesses great boxing ability, however you look at him. i think he has a naivety about him & wears his heart on his sleeve. if curtis has a pop gavin comes back & looks the worse & curtis loves it :!:

i dont think there is any need to call people a prick on the thread either unless there name is messiah/mugabi :DD

No you're right, the public would prefer that he dropped all other ambitions and his team ignore their own plans to pursue the English title fight. I can see the fans starting riots for it if it doesn't happen soon.

Of course we'd like a step up in opponents, but lets not pretend the English title is enticing. For some fighters, it might be a necessary path, but its really not essential in this case.

dont go making excuses already curtis, ok hes coming in 3 pound over what was agreed, but its 3 pound for god sake. it might make a slight difference if it goes the whole 12 and hes leaning on you all through the fight but lets be honest here mate. you wont lay a glove on him you wont win a single round and youl be made to look like a novice.

so to sum up if you go the full 12 rounds and frankie wins by a point or 2 then i will come back on here and say what a close fight that was, maybe if you would have fought 3 pound lighter you may have got it, but iv got a feeling il be coming on here saying i hate to say i told you so but that was a case of boy v man, lets see if im right :TU:

hand on my heart i dont think it would have, it wasnt his strength that caused me problems it was his fast hands and foot movement, i never felt i was being out strenghed in there just out slicked in some of the middle rounds when he started to get on top a bit
