Sky sports this weekend

Post by Tommy Gunn13 »

This weekends boxing is far better than most UK PPVs recently, Burns-Cook,Murray-Mitchell,Bellew-McKenzie&Gavin-Woodhouse..So when we pay for PPV are we just paying for just Cleverly&Degale?? I think this is the best British bill in a long time...

I agree should be a great show, think Fwrank has had issues with last few PPVs that he has just let Sky have this one???

And I agree its Monday, there could be weight issues etc

I just dont think any of the names sell a PPV, no Heavyweight fight, Mitchell vs Murray wasn't expected to be on it, and there has just been the Haye PPV with Khan PPV coming up (albeit not on Sky).

Too many things going against it atm to charge.

This is a great card, IF it goes ahead in full as planned. If it was in London I'd happily have paid top dollar to sit ringside for it.

It is a good card if it all goes ahead but to be honest this is what we should really expect. I'm not sure it's the best British bill in a long time. Standards have slipped so low (especially PPV's) that when we see a few interesting domestic fights people start thinking it is an amazing card.

I think Burns will take care of Cook quite easily (and possibly quite boringly) and Mitchell Murray being cancelled, but it has the potential at least to be great viewing all the way through (or what Sky show of it!).

It is a three hour show so hopefully they should be able to show all of the fights.

They had better not be yapping on for ages and then only show highlights of some of the fights.

Its a very good bill and made all the better with the addition of Murray v Mitchell. I expect all 4 big names to be shown in full, not all live though i would say.

Credit where it is due, its a fantastic card. Frank often delivers a nice summer card on a Saturday, even in the days of Friday Night Fight - I guess this big bill is still allowed on the contract.

Lets not put ideas into Sky's head about making similar bills a PPV - although for me it is better than ANY of his domestic only PPV's with 2 geniune 50:50 matches - I just don't want more PPV's.

The PPV decision is as much driven by the Promotor's terms with the fighter as anything else.
Sky do not pay well any more for their standard shows.
PPV is the only option sometimes to achieve the figures needed to satisfy the fighters.
Bottom line is the Promotor has to make a profit.
I expect that Cleverly's contract makes it difficult to achieve that without PPV revenue - and with having to pay the standard of opponent we all demand.

that's all the promoter's fault then, for needing to make profit immediately on each show. putting shows on at a loss on non-ppv builds up more of a fan-base, same as matchroom are doing with Froch. Cleverly won't get much of a fanbase going if he's always on PPV - i wouldn't pay on the chance that he may be worth it.

as for this weekend's scraps, i think sky have been advertising the top 3 fights anyway

Builds up a fanbase for another promoter to then poach them. There's no loyalty, they can't do business like there is or they would lose money (which a lot of them do anyway).
