Re: USA Olympic Trials - Men's Boxing
Not sure if Louis Cruz (NYC) and Marquice Weston (WA) has qualified...???
But here's my predictions right now...
108- Louie Byrd
114-Rau'shee Warren
123- Tramaine Williams
132- Erick DeLeon
141- tough call but I'd go with Michael Reed
152- Amir Imam or Errol Spence Jr.
165- Luis Arias...could go with Jesse Hart if not
178- Jerry Odom or Marcus Browne...lean towards Odom since Marcus hasn't fought in months...
201- Jordan Shimmell
201+ - Lenroy Thompson

Re: USA Olympic Trials - Men's Boxing
Louis Cruz qualified through the pals even tho he was the runner up..simms who won the pals qualified through the USA championships ..simms is taking his spot through the USA championship and since the pals was the first qualifier there taking Cruz to rep the pal spot
Re: USA Olympic Trials - Men's Boxing
OK I corrected my list.
Re: USA Olympic Trials - Men's Boxing
In most weight classes at least 5 or 6 of the guys are clearly top 8 caliber. Better than in 2007. There are a few guys who I think are clearly in the top 8 who didn't make the Trials due to bad luck with the draws.
Re: USA Olympic Trials - Men's Boxing
The list includes lots of boxers from Regions 14, 8, 1, 2, & 5. Plus the Armed Svcs are guaranteed 10 but actually have 1 or 2 more.
Re: USA Olympic Trials - Men's Boxing
Isaac Torres looked great at the last chance im thinking hes gonna take it at 123!
Re: USA Olympic Trials - Men's Boxing
Jesse Hart competed at 178 in the nationals. Will he compete at 165 in the Trials?

Re: USA Olympic Trials - Men's Boxing
Calm down there Juke. You were talkin' up Torre before the PALS and he lost first night. 2009 PALS he gpt smoked by Victor 8-0. He didn't make it out of the region for the Golden Gloves or the USA"s. Enjoy the monent, but keep it in prospective
Re: USA Olympic Trials - Men's Boxing
That is what I heard, that Jesse was going at 165, but we will know for sure after the registration deadline of July 13.
Re: USA Olympic Trials - Men's Boxing
Jesse Hart declared 165 when he registred at the US Championships, Antoine Douglas will go 165, giving the PAL spot to Bryant Perrella.
Re: USA Olympic Trials - Men's Boxing
Dennis - please correct Joet Gonzalez from Glendora, CT to Glendora, CA - he's from my LBC - I notified USAB during the Championships but they didn't change it.123:
Joseph Diaz Jr., El Monte, CA
Joet Gonzalez, Glendora, CT
Yeah for Region 14!
Re: USA Olympic Trials - Men's Boxing
while you are at it change Norberto Torres to Orlando, FL.

Re: USA Olympic Trials - Men's Boxing
108-David Carlton (I gotta go with my own fighter)
People forget that David only has 25 bouts but he is getting better and better. We know that beating Louie at Nationals was not easy, but I have let David know that now he has to prove that it was no fluke. He also knows there will be other tough guys like Erros and Santos in particular.
114-Raushee Warren
123-Joseph Diaz (sleeper is Antonio Nieves)
132-Toka Kahn (sleeper is Kenny Simms)
141-Mike Reed
152-Errol Spence
165-Luis Arias (sleeper is Chris Pearson)
178-Marcus Browne
201-Jordan Shimmel or Mike Hunter
201+-Cam Thompson
It should be a great week of boxing and I look forward to being in Mobile. A lot of these weights are loaded and we all know that more than likely someone will come out of nowhere and snag one of these spots.

Thought so. And good luck to Carlton, seen him fight a lot. He is really improving since the 2010 U19's.coachgiovanni wrote:Yep it's Bennedosso @ 108 as the military representative.
Re: USA Olympic Trials - Men's Boxing
132 pounds is going to be on fire during the trials. Deleon, J. Ramirez, Khan-Clary and Williams all have legit chances to win and I would trust any of them representing the U.S. in the Olympics. And still, I wouldn't count out any of the other guys. Williams was practically untouchable during the Last Chance Qualifier.
108: Byrd (sleeper: Carlton)
114: Warren
123: Diaz Jr. (sleeper Nieves)
132: DeLeon
141: Sosa (maybe Reed)
152: Spence
165: Arias
178: Going to guess Plant
201: Shimmell

Re: USA Olympic Trials - Men's Boxing
Mel & Todd - I corrected the hometowns as requested.
Re: USA Olympic Trials - Men's Boxing
Get ready for a lot of top amateurs turning pro in the next few months. Guys that didn't make the trials & guys that did but don't win them. It will make the pro game more interesting. It happens every 4 years. Then the following year's Natl tournaments have a lot of new faces.
Re: USA Olympic Trials - Men's Boxing
Thanks, Dennis. I never ceases to amaze me when USAB gets hometowns incorrectly and misspells athlete's names. Happens all the time. You would think........Mel & Todd - I corrected the hometowns as requested.
