George Groves says "Big News on the way"??????
Any guesses?
Pavlik to try and steal a march on DeGale?

Re: George Groves says "Big News on the way"??????
If it's big news then I'll be disappointed if he's not in against one of the Boxrec top 25 at Super Middleweight.
Looking at this I think Brian Magee would be a good opponent, or perhaps even Allan Green if he wanted to build a name in the States.
1 Lucian Bute
2 Andre Ward
3 Carl Froch
4 Mikkel Kessler
5 Kelly Pavlik
6 Robert Stieglitz
7 Dimitri Sartison
8 Glen Johnson
9 Peter Quillin
10 Thomas Oosthuizen
11 Arthur Abraham
12 Jesus Gonzales
13 Edison Miranda
14 Brian Magee
15 Renan St Juste
16 Edwin Rodriguez
17 Jean Paul Mendy
18 Aaron Pryor Jr
19 Marco Antonio Periban
20 Sakio Bika
21 Allan Green
22 Piotr Wilczewski
23 Librado Andrade
24 Jesse Brinkley
25 Don George

He'd get smashed by at least 20 out of those 25.
Agreed if it isn't one of the Top 25 it really isnt big news!

no way is that his next fight. Johnson is far too much for him at this stage. It could be someone like Andrade who will definitely give him some rounds but no too many problems.goldenears wrote:is that a guess or you know this?allahsnackbar wrote:glen johnson

Put him in with Mendy.
Re: George Groves says "Big News on the way"??????
Magee is fighting for the WBA interim title on 30th July, so I don't think it will be him.johnswan1 wrote:Looking at this I think Brian Magee would be a good opponent, or perhaps even Allan Green if he wanted to build a name in the States.
Re: George Groves says "Big News on the way"??????
1 Lucian Bute - No. Probable fight with Pavlik
2 Andre Ward - No. Fighting Froch.
3 Carl Froch - No. Fighting Ward
4 Mikkel Kessler - No. Fighting Stieglitz.
5 Kelly Pavlik - No. Probably fighting Bute.
6 Robert Stieglitz - No. Fighting Kessler
7 Dimitri Sartison - No. Defending his title against an unknown Ukrainian
8 Glen Johnson - All wrong for Groves.
9 Peter Quillin - Wouldn't come to the UK at this stage and can't see Groves traveling.
10 Thomas Oosthuizen - Unknown. Would hardly constitute "Big News"
11 Arthur Abraham
12 Jesus Gonzales - Unknown. Would hardly constitute "Big News"
13 Edison Miranda
14 Brian Magee - Fighting for an Interim title shortly.
15 Renan St Juste - Unknown. Would hardly constitute "Big News"
16 Edwin Rodriguez - Unknown. Would hardly constitute "Big News"
17 Jean Paul Mendy - Unknown. Would hardly constitute "Big News"
18 Aaron Pryor Jr - Wouldn't come to the UK at this stage and can't see Groves traveling.
19 Marco Antonio Periban - Unknown. Would hardly constitute "Big News"
20 Sakio Bika
21 Allan Green - wouldn't come to the UK and can't see Groves traveling.
22 Piotr Wilczewski - Fighting DeGale for the Euro title
23 Librado Andrade
24 Jesse Brinkley
25 Don George - Unknown. Would hardly constitute "Big News"
So the options, as I see them, would be a comeback for Arthur Abraham which has big name cachet but will always carry a risk as a big puncher or a known gatekeeper type in Miranda, Andrade, Bika or Brinkley.
I think they're looking to steal a march on Team DeGale so they may well go for Abraham, probably in Germany.

Re: George Groves says "Big News on the way"??????
His big announcement is probably that he's got to 20,000 twitter followers - seems a bit obsessed with that at the moment.
In all seriousness, I predict it will be another 'big announcement' that really isn't a big announcement at all.

Re: George Groves says "Big News on the way"??????
Wasn't there something in BN last week about 'rumours that Jeff Lacy is being lined up to face George Groves have been denied'? It would be ridiculous, and yes it was being denied... but it's fairly hard to shock me nowadays
Alternatively, if last week's 'big announcement' is anything to go by, perhaps he has a new tattoo.

Cant George have a defence of his title. Why rush him? Every chance Degale could lose again in his Euro title shot.

What is so bad about that fight?Benito wrote:Wasn't there something in BN last week about 'rumours that Jeff Lacy is being lined up to face George Groves have been denied'? It would be ridiculous, and yes it was being denied... but it's fairly hard to shock me nowadays![]()

Re: George Groves says "Big News on the way"??????
Lacy just seems to have fallen away completely, can't remember the name of the guy he fought last time out, but it was someone way, way below the level he was at a few years back. I like Jeff Lacy but I fear his confidence is shot to bits. I just think it would be a cynical move if the fight was made... yes everyone knows his name, but he seems to be a shell of the man he was.Horse wrote:What is so bad about that fight?Benito wrote:Wasn't there something in BN last week about 'rumours that Jeff Lacy is being lined up to face George Groves have been denied'? I could be wrong though - do you think it would have potential?
Re: George Groves says "Big News on the way"??????
It would be like a better than average British title defence sort of fight. Lacy would be a fairly big name opponent, so I don't think it is a bad fight at this stage of Groves career.Benito wrote:Lacy just seems to have fallen away completely, can't remember the name of the guy he fought last time out, but it was someone way, way below the level he was at a few years back. Aye, fair enough. Maybe I'm writing Lacy off prematurely. It would certainly get people's attention if it were to happen...Horse wrote:It would be like a better than average British title defence sort of fight. Edison Miranda would do, still a bit of a name well on the slide but with a big punch
Re: George Groves says "Big News on the way"??????
very good fighter with lots of potential, but he is being brought along to quick he's 23 & has made 3 defences of his commonwealth & picked up the lonsdale in 13 bouts & they aint been easy.haye was 26 when he fought for the european title.

Anybody daft enough to think he'll be put in with just about anyone on that list needs their head read. George did well against DeGale, but he's still got a long way to go as a pro and as yet he is not ready for world class. Miranda, Abraham, Green, Johnson etc have all been mentioned on this thread, those fights would be like man vs boy, he'd get smashed to bits.

Re: George Groves says "Big News on the way"??????
Could it be Paul Smith? Surely that wouldn't constitute "big" news given DeGale already beat him.
Re: George Groves says "Big News on the way"??????
God I hope it's not Robin Reid.
Miranda or Lacy would do. Can't see them sticking him in with Abraham, Pavlik or some of the other names being mentioned. Brian Magee would have been a good measuring stick but he's off to Costa Rica for a fight at the end of the month.

Maybe Hurlock? She would at least come out swinging! Her locks would also be a weapon.
