Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
During today's conference call, Zab Judah refused to speak to the British press who were also on the call, due to not getting any piece of the UK revenue for the fight with Khan.

UK media have nothing to do with TV revenue. What a plonker.

It's called making a point.Wake up call wrote:UK media have nothing to do with TV revenue. What a plonker.
It's also an action speaking louder than many words.
Great move by Judah!
Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
He signed to fight Khan, he knew the deal, so tough on him
Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
Of course they do, people who aren't boxing nerds like many of us (I'm excluding those who are professionally involved) know about fights and are exposed to the hype which influences their decision to purchase fights or otherwise through ssn and the tabloids.Wake up call wrote:UK media have nothing to do with TV revenue. Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
Seems a bit petty from Judah. He knew the deal when he signed up. If he wanted a cut from any UK PPV's, he should have asked for it.

Just because he knows the deal doesn't make it right. If some turned round and told me I could fight in a unification fight but I couldn't have any money from a countries TV sales I don't think I'd be rushing to the door when the BBC knocked. If i'm not getting anything out of it why would I waste my time?
Its a unification fight who gives a F&#K if he doesn't speak to a section of the press. Its a FIGHT not a popularity contest.

Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
I think he's made a fair point. If he isn't getting any UK revenue, then why bother selling the fight in the UK. He's got nothing against the UK media, but has decided not to help sell Khan's share of the purse.
I think it's quite funny.

Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
How pathetic. HBO will be pissed off as this makes them look stupid, they're a big professional organisation who want to put on world events. But Judah's always been a jerk anyway. He made a big deal that he didn't want any of the UK TV money then acts like this. And people wonder why boxing never gets any press in the US, because people have Judah's attitude.

I understand his frustration about money but it's not like team Khan pulled this on him after he'd signed. They offered him the terms and he accepted.
Judah has always been a prize prick anyway so not really surprised.

Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
How do any of you think that this is right? Are you crazy? Judah would struggle to fill a phone box with his fans, he will be getting four times more for this fight than most other defences, he's the away fighter and he's fighting at home. Nobody is calling for this fight. Fighters refusing to speak to the media is not and has never been good, trust me. If he got a bad deal then he should have gone elsewhere for the fight. So, he has no fans, he has a terrible reputation and he's been gifted this fight and he still refuses to speak...and some of you think that it is right...there is a direct link between profile and cash, fact. This is NOT good. He is famous for what... gold teeth, being knocked silly by Tszyu, his brawl with Witter, a hitless mazurka with Mayweather, throwing a stall at Nady...how many of the so-called Big American boxing writers do you think will come into Vegas for this fight? Very few, trust me again.
He has a captive audience of about 15 members of the British media, desperate to hear him talk and he's not going to say a word. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
If this becomes the trend then Sergio Martinez will follow, Brandon Rios could be next, Erik Morales...this is bad.
Adios.

Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
i can see his point aswell to be honest, the khan camp aren't making a reputation as people who are easy to make deals with.
What were his options?
a: ask for a 50-50 cut, lose the fight and there for any money whatsoever.
b: cut his losses with the tv revenue and still make more £ than he will vs any other likely opposition.
Obviously he's gonna pick option b and show his frustration about option a not promote a fight here just for Khan to see the rewards.
Buncey, as much as you make a very strong point i can also see an argument for it the other way round.
If fighters refuse to talk to the press and it effects sales then TV companies may have it in theyre interest to push for more fair deals aswell so that they reach theyre full earning potential.
Quite ironic that Khan gets all the UK sales although it could be argued that a large % only want to see him get beat, lol

Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
He obviously does not know what a Pay Per View draw Khan is in the UK?. If he did he would not have been so fussed.
I do find his claims to have become superman under Whittiker a bit hollow. The amount of time he has been a pro, he will not be capable of any significant change now.
I was looking forward to Khan getting knocked out but the recent British run has been so dire with Rhodes, Macklin and Haye all coming off second best, I almost hope that he stops the rot.

That`s a bit off in terms of Macklin. He gave every ounce of everything he had in that fight and was narrowly pipped at the post. I had him dead level going into the last.Petaling Pete wrote:He obviously does not know what a Pay Per View draw Khan is in the UK?. If he did he would not have been so fussed.

Rhodes was beaten buy a young gun who was simply too good/strong for him.
Only Haye`s performance could at worst be called dire. Again here he was beaten by the better man.
I hope Judah stops Khan. The decision alone to switch from SS2 to Primetime for his last fight, charge £15 to the viewer instead of letting it go for for free on SS2, whilts claiming he was doing it for the fans, was enough to put me off him for good.
Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
I agree with Bunce. Its pathetic and inexcusable - he knew the terms of the deal when he signed up. I only hope that there is a clause in the contract that commits him to co-operate with the media and promote the fight. If there is, come fight night, I'd withhold a portion of his purse and let him sue for it.
Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
I'm ok with it, he's not some young boy who can be bullied into doing it, good luck to him. At this stage of his career, winning over 12 UK media men (hardly any of whom can get anything boxing related printed in the national press) is hardly going to make or break him. His comments would have only been read by boxing fans who are already in a position to decide whether or not to purchase the fight. His comments would have made the last line of an article dominated by Khan. The press regularly cite freedom of speech but it works both ways, one should also have the freedom not to speak

Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
Is either fighter really going to be the home fighter in this one? Will many of the yanks fly in for this, are many Brits going over? I have no idea on the ticket sales but are they expecting anywhere near a full house for this?Buncey wrote:How do any of you think that this is right? Are you crazy?
