Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
Khan is home fighter - he WILL/HAS sold tickets. The New York papers will NOT even write about Judah. How many Judah fans will fly in? Ans: Zippo.
Silence from a fighter is not a good way for fights to go - it's only a small hop to a fighter not speaking to any media anywhere if he is the 'opponent'. Think about it: Why should Lee Purdy speak this weekend in Manchester? Why should Ovil McKenzie speak this week in Liverpool? They are not sharing the TV spoils - like Judah, they did a deal and have no claim on any TV money.
Adios.

Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
I imagine Judah is getting f*** all for this fight, judging by Khan's offer to his last opponent. But you'd think his legal team would have thought to put in the contract that he had to make all efforts to publicise this fight, to the US and the UK press.
Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
Lee Purdy is at an age where building a profile is important to him, it has to be. Any press now is helpful for himself, and wouldn't do his confidence any harm either. Judah has been there and done it, and isn't in the same bracket as Lee Purdy, if nothing else its a 24 year old's attitude in contrast to the attitude of a 33 year old who hasn't got that long left in the sport. Try keeping McKenzie queit! He is hungry and also in a different 'place' than Judah.Buncey wrote:Khan is home fighter - he WILL/HAS sold tickets. The New York papers will NOT even write about Judah. It reminds me more of when Chris Eubank didn't do anything to push a fight - I think it was the one against Close. Don King was furious but as far as I remember Chris had struck a deal which wasn't impacted by viewing figures or didn't mention him selling the fight, so he didn't.

To be fair, of course Buncey is annoyed, he's part of the British press.

To be even fairer why are the British press copping the flak did they write up the terms of the contract?Scottrf wrote:To be fair, of course Buncey is annoyed, he's part of the British press.
He'd be far better off concentrating on chinning Khan for some payment in kind
Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
Personally I think it's a Clever move by Judah. If he declared "I'm going to knock Khan out" nobody would give a toss.
The fact he has turned around and done this, has got everyone's tongues wagging like crazy.
Agree or disagree - it has done the trick, and has also provided a more interesting secondary story/discussion of it's own, than the usual dot-to-dot boxing phrases that fighters normally come out with.
All said and done, the British media are going to pump Khan's fight hard in the UK - and big talk from Judah would wet the public's appetite further. But like Judah say's, if i'm not having a slice of that pie, why should I help you cook it.
When Khan told Judah to get screwed on UK TV money during negotiations, then that was Team Khan's perogative - and now it's Judah's to decide whether he assist's them to sell it. Obviously he's declined it.
It's the trend for people dealing with Team Khan to get narked over money. Everyone around them says it's a nightmare. You only have to look at the Ariza situation to see how they tight fistedly treat their own, let alone the opposition. Bet they never forecasted this though.

Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
Exactly Gomez. He probably had a nightmare in negotiations, like everyone seems to say after dealing with Team Khan. He's taking revenge. Petty? Probably. Is he entitled? Of course.
Ironically (assuming it isn't his intention) it's now a big talking point.

Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
Well said Gomez, and a great argument against what Buncey has said. I can completely see from Judahs point of view - if he is not contracted to help sell the fight to the British public and doesn't benefit financially from doing so, then why should he? I think it serves the greedy Khans right.G0mez wrote:Personally I think it's a Clever move by Judah. If he declared "I'm going to knock Khan out" nobody would give a toss.

I do find his claims to have become superman under Whittiker a bit hollow. The amount of time he has been a pro, he will not be capable of any significant change now.
I was looking forward to Khan getting knocked out but the recent British run has been so dire with Rhodes, Macklin and Haye all coming off second best, I almost hope that he stops the rot.
Rhodes was beaten buy a young gun who was simply too good/strong for him.
Only Haye`s performance could at worst be called dire. Again here he was beaten by the better man.
I hope Judah stops Khan. The decision alone to switch from SS2 to Primetime for his last fight, charge £15 to the viewer instead of letting it go for for free on SS2, whilts claiming he was doing it for the fans, was enough to put me off him for good.
It was never on Sky Sports 2, nor Sky Sports 3.
Sky signed a deal for it to be on Sky Box Office and announced it. Then on the back of the bad feedback of Haye v Harrison, started moaning about the undercard. They then tried to force Khan into taking an offer of £160,000 for the fight, when McCloskey's purse was around £200,000. His fee from HBO was about £75,000.
So in your world (obviously biased by some strange hatred for a hugely talented British boxer) you believe that Khan should have fought for 20 per cent of his challenger's purse, plus what was left from the gate money after the undercard had been paid for.
Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
Think you missed a 0 from his HBO fee.

Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
Well said, Buncey.
He should be thankful to be even getting this shot at Khan. His popularity in recent years has been at an all-time low, and a 50-50 split where he'll be earning triple the amount he did last time round, is a blessing for him. But now he thinks he deserves some of the UK money, too? Laughable, to the say the least. Especially when you refer back to the following statement he made before the fight was signed:

People criticize Khan for being a money-grabber despite offering fair deals like this and generous Bradley one, yet Zab is funny and clever for wanting UK money in addition to the 50-50 he didn't even deserve in the first place?I just want the American rights, 50/50, a regular split and that's it. You keep all your U.K. bullsh*t.

I guess you were the same guy pointing fingers during every contract fiasco such as Mayweather-Pac, Haye-Klitscho etc.
Firstly, I doubt any of this makes a difference, as the regular Boxing and Khan fans will be getting this on PPV regardless of any hype as it's on Primetime, NOT on Sky Box Office. The people who purchase Primetime bouts would purchase it regardless of what platform its on i.e. Sky, Primetime, PPV Internet etc.
Secondly, Judah has only shot himself in the foot. I doubt HBO or any other Network and Promotion company will want anything to do with this guy after this bout, especially as HBO are investing in Khan at the moment.
As Buncey said, i doubt Judah's handful of fans will be able to compensate him when he cant get a big bout afterwards.

The Irish guy is who I'm talking about. Is Zab getting a mill ? I doubt it somehow, his claim to a world title is tenuous at best. I still think not talking to 12 British journo's who won't use much of what he says will not make much difference to his career at this stage of it. Whether he gets a big bout or not is another matter, but its likely to defined by more than not talking to a few journalists in a country you'll probably never fight in again, or never fight another person from.observer1 wrote:As Buncey said, i doubt Judah's handful of fans will be able to compensate him when he cant get a big bout afterwards.

It's normal for the UK fighter to keep all the money here, isn't it? So how did Khan screw them on UK money? I mean, Mayweather and Pacquiao didn't get a slice of the money Hatton made here, did they? And this is Mayweather and Pacquiao we're talking about. Would have been funnier if Zab had agreed to talk to the UK media, then admitted he was probably going to get beaten up quite badly.

The similar offer you're talking about was $1.2 million ($300,000 less) minus the 50-50 split from UK money. Well if that's the case, everyone is hard to deal with. Throughout the history of Boxing, whether it was the Mafia's fighter, or the TV networks goldenboy, money dictates everything. Why do you think all the top fighters get their own way when it comes to purse splits and catch-weights etc. I dont see anything different that Team Khan does from any other house fighter.Scottrf wrote:Did I criticise them? Fair enough, though im sure according to ESPN and Dan Rafael , it was considerably less than what Khan offered.Scottrf wrote:Because he had a guarantee for a similar amount with less risk.observer1 wrote:What are you talking about? Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
It was first thought that Bradley was taking advantage of HBO's generous $1.2 million offer on his next fight, regardless of who it was against. He would take this easy $1.2 million, and then get a similar amount for fighting Khan after. The Dark Destroyer wrote:Isn't Bradley in a contract for his next fight? He can potentially earn a lot more from Khan if he was to fight him after his next fight. That's the impression I've been under anyway.
But then, in an attempt to persuade Bradley to take on Khan next like he [Bradley] promised everyone, Shaw altered his promotional agreement so that Bradley would earn $1.5 million instead. And in addition to this, Khan's team said they would also offer Bradley 50% of their UK revenue. Bradley still rejected this, proving that the above reason for not fighting Khan next, wasn't a valid/true one.
Instead, he later admitted that he's hoping to land a Pacquiao fight soon, and that fighting Khan in the mean time, is too risky. Which is ridiculous. The earliest he can get to fight Pacquiao - if he's lucky - is in a years time. What's he planning on doing in the mean time?

Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
It still doesn't deter from the fact that Bradley was given an extremely generous deal, which is contrary to the claim [by Mighty Warrior, and others] that Khan was offering f*** all to his last opponent. And we actually do know a lot about his promotional deals. See one of my previous posts.Scottrf wrote:Risk/reward. He has promotional and TV deals, which we don't know the full details of.

And chances are, he is refusing to fight Khan next. Bradley has voiced his desire to fight Manny Pacquiao some time in 2012, and he's not looking to jeopardise the chances of that fight by facing Khan in the mean time.
Re: Judah Refuses to Speak to UK Media
No it's not "the norm" for all UK money to be kept by the UK fighter. Often it tallies into a split of 50-50, in the case of Pacquiao, he wanted even more than the 50-50 and the difference was picked up by Arum to make the fight occur. Haye vs Wlad etc.Uncle Rico wrote: Screwed on UK money?

In this case Judah doesn't have as much sway as the aforementioned opponents and is on much less than 50-50 all things considered. So im not sure why you allude to the fact that he actually is given 50-50 when he's not got any % of UK money, it's mathmatically impossible ?
Everyone in boxing knows that Bradley's deal with Shaw is over and he's signing with Top Rank, his manager Cameron Dunkin has put it all together for him, like he did Donaire and Kirkland before him, whom he managed and removed from Shaw for bigger opportunities. It was all a PR stunt of making Bradley look bad. Hence Team Khan become unusually generous in their offers... despite Tim Bradley being unable to draw flies. Then they revert straight back to type for Judah.
Ariza might not be an angel - but the reality is that his room was broken into and robbed of contracts with Khan for his services. then Khan publicly declared he worked for Freddie and was nothing to do with them. It was only when they realised the services Ariza provided were vital to the Amir Khan roadshow, that suddenly "all is forgiven, here, have some money" and the relationship resumed. That is fact and is well documented. Ariza had no beef with Amir, it was this "Team Khan" yet again.
Perhaps the same advisors who have shat all over Sky when they excercised some quality control of the undercard and overall value for money package that his last fight afforded his fans.
Other far more willing and exciting fighters dont hold a gun to TV companies heads and roar it's PPV or get lost, for what many believe was a pedestrian and hand-picked opponent.
They run their affairs like a cash & carry, failing to realise that relationships are the key to long term success - and dutch auctioning round their product simply pisses off everyone that really, Team Khan, should be bending over backwards to look after.
