Frankie Gavin has he made.....
His money too soon, has he got the chances too soon, has he not had to work his boots off to get the title shots others has only dreamed off . For me yes he has, he needs a massive kick up his backside if he wants to become world class.
Re: Frankie Gavin has he made.....
the guy needs to get in shape, hes never looked ever near ripped? he surely can get down a weight id actually like him to post his weekly diet? cause i have major questions marks over it, i wish the lad all the best but needs to drop down i feel
Re: Frankie Gavin has he made.....
It is too simplistic to say that certain boxers have too much money - look at Oscar DLH he is minted, yet couldn't have trained or fought harder.
Look at Beckham, Rooney, Tevez etc. (not to mention most of those in the NBA and American Football), they all have more money than they could ever spend, yet you cannot fault their commitment.
They all have that indefinable quality that separates the "good" from the "great".

Move away from from the clown FARNELL

Re: Frankie Gavin has he made.....
Discipline does seem to be a problem for Gavin and maybe this is a reflection on the Farnell camp. Discipline can come out in many ways, weight making, not sticking to game plans, fighters being perhaps that little bit too pally with him.
Obviously as a trainer, you are gona be pals and get close to your boxers, but I think, from the outside, Farnell doesn't seem to be getting that balance right between being a disciplinarian/leader/'the boss' and being the fighter's mate. Fighter's should have a bit of fear that they are gona get bollocked off their trainer if they aren't doing the eating correctly or are slacking off a bit in general.

He needs another trainer with more authoritytht6 wrote:Move away from from the clown FARNELL
Re: Frankie Gavin has he made.....
People seem to have strong opinions about Farnell. I don't know much about his personality or training methods. I think if Gavin is struggling with diet etc though you'd have to ask why the trainer isn't sorting this. They don't have to be a disciplinarian, just command enough respect to get them to commit to the game more.

You can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink!

Didn't he fail to make the Olympics because of weight issues?

yeah that's right, the set up never allowed him to fight at l.welter because saunders was in place on the programme regardless of gavin winning international golds at competitions & beating some of the best l.welters in the world & winning best boxer of the tournament. ut i wouldnt expect you to know that as you no fuk all ;;-)
Re: Frankie Gavin has he made.....
I'm uneasy about the amount of excuses that surround Gavin and his 'weight-making issues'. Time for some tough love from those who surround him and a bit more professionalism.

Re: Frankie Gavin has he made.....
ill be interested as to where FW goes from here with gavin, FW is not known to suffer fools...he will give boxers chances who are either fantastic ticket sellers (farnell) or fantastically gifted (gavin) or both (hatton).
If these things diminish then frank will look very closely at his product.
gavin is in danger of not being able to return the investment frank has shown (paid) in him. I think frank will give him one more chance, possibly against a decent contender, i think frank will insist gavin makes LW to show his commitment. then ill expect warren to put him in with nigel wright/lenny daws or someone similar.
If gavin goofs up again he might get the spanish archer from FW....![[icon_e_surprised.gif] :oo](./images/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif)

Taking peoples points and personally views into consideration i will tread carefully!
Firstly i agree frankie could be better at lightweight and obviously needs to train herder to get there, how ever regards looking ripped does Bellew?
mentioning Bellew people want Gavin to move away from farnell to follow diets and gameplans it shows that this is possible after Bellew moved away and fought to a strict gameplan but was the crowd and fans any more satisfied?
I think fans jump in and judge far to quickly or based on one fight look at Groves, was hounded after the Andersson fight but look at how well he did against Degale.
looking at fighters and trainers that dont work personally Clev could do with a change and some more strict guidance but no one mentions this as he hasnt had trouble yet but who has he fought.
I agree with Gavin getting chances he may of not worked as hard for as others but his promoter is the same guy who takes people from losing fights to world and european titles i.e Khan and Degale.

Re: Frankie Gavin has he made.....
haha glad some one agrees heard a rumour that the cleverly camp worship him and he can do know wrong i know his dad has voiced thoughts of him been better than joe calzaghe but Joe is one in a million
Re: Frankie Gavin has he made.....
I cant believe anyone could disagree with the blindingly obvious fact that Gavin has been in need of a wake-up call for some time and he got it last night. Let's hope he starts to take it seriously now. I know people that have personally sen him step off the weigh-in scales and drink a bottle pop and eat a mars bar. That is not someone who has respect for their body or their profession.
I wish him good luck and would advise him, for what it's worth, to get himself down to 10st at most but more realistically to 9'9 where he could make an impact at world level as his boxing skills are of a high class and it would seem he is blessed with good natural speed and reflexes. if he stays at 10'7 and gets moved up a level, he will get KO'd - no question.

I too think Cleverly is looking too much at how Calzaghe did things. Cleverly simply does not have the quality in the gym that calzaghe had .. and he doesn`t have the skills of Calzaghe either. He really needs to sort his camp out asap.
I have kept an eye on Frankie Gavin since he turned pro. And have been following his career and comparing him to top amateurs around his weight who have turned pro on the other side of the Atlantic at the same time. And fair plays to Frankie, he has been matched tougher, whilst still having a comparable stoppage ratio. He has a young trainer, and I`m sure they will recognise changes that will soon be needed to be made.
