Kevin's head movement 10/10
Kevin's head movement 10/10
Head movement was very good, every time he was against the ropes, Murray couldn't hit him.

Re: Kevin's head movement 10/10
I would say upper body movement was good for sure but not so much the head movement. He took plenty of clean shots in there. I'll still worry for the guy if he faces a world class puncher. And I'm a massive Kevin Mitchell fan.
Re: Kevin's head movement 10/10
Agreed, for me he still showed the flaws that saw him get smashed up by Katsidis. it's just that Murray isn't at that level. At euro level Kevin will get away with that, but at world level the same thing could happen. I know there are the excuses for Katsidis, but the fact is he got caught clean in the Kat fight and went, got caught clean tonight and didn't and the only real difference I see is in the power level of the 2 opponents.Kilburn wrote:I would say upper body movement was good for sure but not so much the head movement. Agree, would like to see Kevin hands up more when he was moving around - would often get caught before going into the rope... needs to block them shots.
Re: Kevin's head movement 10/10
Kevin reminded me how Nigel Benn moved his head against Henry Walton in their fight, Benn was also under Jimmy Tibbs at the time. Yes he did get clipped, but against the ropes his head movement was very good. He advoided a lot of punches. We can all say he sould of got hit less, but it aint as easy as that. I think his ducking and weaving was very impressive.

I like Kev but i think it's a a bit too soon to be talking world titles. Would like to see him avenge the Katsidis loss and then go from there.

Re: Kevin's head movement 10/10
I didn't see his head movement being that impressive tbh, Murray slipped the jab and landed the right hand over the top quite a lot. Also Mitchell's left ear looked cauliflowered (cauliflower ear) so the right hook must of landed a fair bit! Offensively though Mitchell looked superb with crisp combinations

He needs to keep away from Katsidis.Big_Amzzino wrote:I like Kev but i think it's a a bit too soon to be talking world titles. Would like to see him avenge the Katsidis loss and then go from there.
Their fight wasn't a close decision, and he wasn't caught with a lucky punch.

Katsidis has been in 2 wars since then and may be showing a bit of wear and tear. Slight change of tactics and i think Mitchell would have a decent chance of winning.bripez wrote:He needs to keep away from Katsidis.Big_Amzzino wrote:I like Kev but i think it's a a bit too soon to be talking world titles. Re: Kevin's head movement 10/10
Mitchell did a really good job last night, but let's not kid ourselves that he's all of a sudden world class.
Line up some top 10 opponents and keep active for 12 months. Then we can start talking about a possible title challenge.
Katsidis is a contender, not a champion, and he disposed of Mitchell very easily indeed, regardless of the issues surrounding the fight...... then we saw not long after how a legendary fighter in Marquez dominated and stopped Katsidis.
It's all about levels. I didn't think he had it in him to beat Murray, and did really well to get the W.
Let's see him back in the ring in October, then January and see from there.

I was impressed by his movement on the inside with the uppercuts, very nice skils.

My thoughts exactly. Good post.LeedsLad wrote:Mitchell did a really good job last night, but let's not kid ourselves that he's all of a sudden world class.

Kevin shouldn't have any easy oppoments (warm ups) from now on. He's first 29 fights were easy fights. Fair enough, every up and comer should have a few, but 29/33. It didn't do him any favours when he met someone who could hit back. Fair play to him wanting a rematch with Katsidis, that shows he aint affraid off the Ozzy, and he thinks he could beat him. People on this site have said he sould "stay away from Katsidis" but what sort of fighter would that make him. In no other sport would you get fans of other sports saying that teams should advoid other teams incase they get mullered, or a tennis player should stay clear of another player ect ect.
Again, well done Kev.

Kevin's footwork was very good, has to work on head movement but compared to the way his head used to get rocked back e.g. against Johansson, he has got better. Think LeedsLad hit the nail on the head in terms of levels, and the next move.

I thought that was a key point of the fight, Mitchell made Murray miss with alot of shots , his upperbody movement was great, and yes was a bit like Benn v Wharton in that respect.

Re: Kevin's head movement 10/10
I watched the Katsidis fight again and although Mitchell was in serious trouble, it could have been that a knee might have given time to clear his head and get through the round.
If he was not in proper shape as he makes out, it probably made no difference, but it`s not as though he was sparked out or taking a particulary sustained beating.
Kahn`s mauling against maidana was far worse and thta was late on in the fight when the endurance was going. Mitchell was stopped in the third round and should have been realatively fresh.
he hasn`t complained about the stoppage, but people saying he got smashed to bits is not exactly correct. He was hit by some good hard shots, but the ref was very quick to jump in.

Or he could be back to square one. With nobody with his promoter can use to leap-frog back into contention.
He needs to stay away from katsidis. Murray, has Mitchell proved. Is a million miles away from Katsidis in skills and power.

Mitchel was looking very sorry for himself at the time. And was not in the least bit upset at the ref stopping it ... says it all really.

I agree. I'm not sure how hurt he was but his body language was all wrong. It just looked like he wanted to be elsewhere.tonyevs wrote:forcefraser wrote: He was hit by some good hard shots, but the ref was very quick to jump in.

Re: Kevin's head movement 10/10
He looked gone when Katsidis hit him with the last one, a sitting duck and would have been badly knocked out if ref didn't step in there.
Not sure about his improved head movement, he was leaning back a lot, and Murray missed a few very narrowly, before catching him with a massive shot in the 2nd. But as Kev showed in the Johansson fight, he's got massive heart. Chin looks ok too, considering.
Looked like his tactics were to actually KO Murray early - like he doubted Murray could hold a really good punch - but John showed a superb chin...until those huge uppercuts caught up with him that is. The pressure John applied, even after Kev had landed his best, would have broken a lot of hearts - not Mitchell though. Fantastic effort.
