Who should Mitchell fight next?

Post by johnswan1 »

What a tough division and real dilemma for Mitchell. Does he go after Rios, a rematch with Katsidis or somebody else? Should he go for an alphabet title or try to hit the big time against one of the biggest names in the division? The Rios fight is interesting but he'd be a huge underdog and I don't think he'd be able to keep him off him for twelve rounds. A better option may be to go after one of the WBC, IBF (who don't even have no. 1 or no. 2 rankings!) or WBO titles.

Current Champions:

WBA Super: Juan Manuel Marquez
WBA Regular: Brandon Rios
WBC: Vacant
IBF: Miguel Vazquez
WBO: Juan Manuel Marquez

I suppose he could be aiming for a bout with Antonio DeMarco for the vacant WBC title given Murray was previously ranked 6th, although you don't often see Warren fighters going down the WBC route. He could always wait and see what happens with Marquez and whether he vacates his WBO title after the Pacquiao fight. If Pac destroys him he may not have much left. With Guerrero also at 140lbs the WBO title is another viable option, and there's even talk of Rios moving up a weight already.

I'm not sure Rios would be a good move at this stage.

If Guerrero and Rios move up a weight it will be the best thing possible for Kev

I think Paulus Moses for a tune up or Miguel Vasquez for the IBF. or Michael Katsidis for a vacant. I think in a few fights he will have the beating of Rios

I think he should get him self back down to Super Featherweight and do a number on Ricky Burns. Easy world title up for grabs there.

FFS he just struggled to beat John Murray, a man slower than a week in the tin pail! He has no chance at world level, I saw the same guy who got beat of Katsidis on Sat nite. He was just in against a fighter who is nowhere near as hard a hitter as Katsidis. DeMarco, Rios, Antillion would destroy him! Never mind Robert Guererro and JMM. He wouldn't last a round with the elite.

I watched Rios v Antillion and Marquez v Katsidis straight after Mitchell v Murray and the gulf in power, speed, technique, accuracy, footwork and toughness between the Brits and the men are effin huge.

What on earth do you base this on?

If Murray was a more precise fighter he would have had Mitchell out of there when he buzzed the fcuk out of him in the 2nd/3rd round

How is Mitchell going to keep Rios off him, when Acosta couldn't

Mitchell will have a few moments, might 'outbox' him for a couple of rounds but he'll eventually get banjo'd

All just my opinion of course and you are entitled to your own

Gavin Rees would be a good little scrap.

I wouldn't put Kevin in there with at world level just yet. He is coming off a good win but Kevin still has some things to work on. I wouldn't feed him to the lions at the top just yet, that would be utterly pointless.

Kevin is not ready for the top dogs just yet. Late next year would be ideal for him to step up to the top providing he keeps winning.

It was a good performance from Mitchell no doubt but Murray was due to be exposed sooner or later. He's lucky it was against Mitchell and not one of the top boys cos he would have got destroyed. As far as mitchell fighting against some of the above fighters i dont think he's got much of a chance against the top 10. A rematch wi Katsidis is the best option. He's on the slide could be a chance.

It always makes me laugh when people say IF about a boxer who just lost ! Don't write Mitchell off at beating Rios.

Fair dues@ jessi. I accept that

I was just making the point that quality fighters like Rios will not let you off the hook like that

I would love to see Katsidis over here again so I would love a rematch. I think Katsidis would win again to be honest. If not katsidis, Gav Rees would be a good scrap.

didnt they say Murray was #2 with WBC before the fight? That should mean Mitchell is up there now and could fight DeMarco, which is a very winnable fight.

Rees would be a decent fight and so would Crolla, that's if he comes out of the Morales fight with credit.
