Most protected fighter in the UK

Its got to be Tyrone Nurse(i know he posts on here) but 17 fights unbeaten&boxed only two boxers with winning records..Step up Tyrone!! Can anyone think of any others???

It used to be Gavin Rees. 26-0 before his first real test (which he handled superbly btw)

I'd say Nurse too.

I've seen him live a couple of times and once on Sky.... think he boxed Baz Carey on a Maloney bill a couple of years ago and whilst he didn't stop him he pretty much won every round and was a clear winner.

Strange how he went from that to fighting lower level journeymen

Whenever I've seen him he's been good, and Jeff Thomas told me on ESB that he's always seemed on good form in sparring. I'm not sure who's looking after him but it's time they pushed him, if only into an English title fight or even at area level.

Allegedly was very reluctant to put Kell Brook in with anyone even remotely dangerous. His last opponent for them was atrocious.... the first decent punch almost sent him into orbit. His new backers immediately get him someone with proven form, and more importantly someone with stamina and a decent chin, Kell looked the business. I was very much a Brook sceptic for various reasons (matchmaking being the main one) but now hold out some hope that he can make a bit of noise on the world stage.

I think Tyrone needs to step up, he can learn a lot from a loss say in a 50/50 then all his wins combined. If i was a match maker i would put him in with Lee McAllister/Ryan Barrett depending on which weight is wants to title at.

At least some of Brooks oppenents had wins in there record....

In all truthfulness I don't think threads like this are fair to the boxers, I mean they only fight whose put infront of them, the promoters and matchmakers make the fights.

he just beat the number 12 in the country....who else at 21 done that...fred janes was 11 stone when tea was 19 and beat him janes then beat geriant harvey who just beat chris johnson....baguley pulled out with eight week notice for a masters title two days b4...hed just ko d vinny michell...ben lawler was 6 and 0 tea was 8 0 and lawler pulled out...and he s been offered for place twice....dont think thats avoiding anyone...theres a difference between protected and avoided...

What you on about Yid..Meikle has made it clear hes a journeyman,by his record (by the way i see his 2nd pro fight) hes happy doing what hes doing..a fighter who goes 17/0 is hardly a journeyman is he??

I don't think anybody is accusing Nurse of avoiding anyone..... but it is frustrating that after more than three years as a pro, he's had nearly 20 fights and not fought anyone of note.

Baguley would have been a good fight, unfortunately that one was cancelled, but I don't see the point of fighting Ben Lawlor, multiple KO losses since their fight was originally scheduled.

Does Steve Wood still manage him or have they parted?

the same ratings that have tea behind jennings...who just drew with nesbitt ...who tea beat as a 19 year old.......2 years ago....

Denton Vassell - Commonwealth Champion

With the exception of Lee Purdy, he's not fought anyone of any real substance. I'm not saying he's protected. Maybe he's difficult to match, but his record is definately 'padded'.
