Danny Price turns pro with Maloney
Re: Danny Price turns pro with Maloney
For those of us who have never seen him fight, what's his fighting style? How tall is he?
Congrats on the signing, Frank.
Congrats on the signing, Frank.
Re: Danny Price turns pro with Maloney
Frank loves his Heavies. Will be interesting to see Price in his debut.

Good signing
I think its a bit out of order how hes been dropped of the GB squad(if your face dosent fit)hes had far better results abroad then Vallily&Baister&even beat the Cuban who beat Vallily,he just had a hard draw in the Euros..Beat Bomber in an ABA final aswell!!

Word on the wikipedia street is that he's 6' 6'' and beat Bellew in the ams.Asterix wrote:How tall is he?

Thanks. I didn't think he'd be on Wikipedia so I didn't try it.J-C wrote:Word on the wikipedia street is that he's 6' 6'' and beat Bellew in the ams.Asterix wrote:How tall is he?

He lost to Mike Perez, Brad Pitt (the Aussie cruiserweight prospect: http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer ), but there were only something like 4 points in it, and Clemente Russo (silver medalist at the last Olympics).
He beat David Dolan.

Re: Danny Price turns pro with Maloney
You didn't know I was trying to be silly about Jody Miekle being over-protected ;;-)
Re: Danny Price turns pro with Maloney
Good signing was wondering when he would turn over should be an interesting trickle of top ams turning over the next 6months or so as they drop out of contention for the Olympics.
Price is a top amateur with plenty of international experience but has often been unlucky in the big tournaments when it comes to draws I think twice in the worlds he was drawn against the eventual winner in the first round. Or something of that nature anyway. Cruiser isnt a particularly strong domestic division rack up 10 decent wins and you are looking at titles.

Re: Danny Price turns pro with Maloney
seen him box as an amateur several times, he is tall for a cruiserweight but would say hes more 6"4 than 6"6 but could be wrong, hes been very unlucky with the gb squad, deserved more of a chance imo, but think he be a decent pro.

There should be a few id have thought, only four out of theses might make the olympics Anthony Ogogo-Callum Smith,Tom Stalker-Bradley Saunders,Martin Ward-Ian Weaver(both young so might stay AM) Andrew Selby-Kal Yafai....then a few others a differant weights i dont think will qualify...wrimc wrote:Good signing was wondering when he would turn over should be an interesting trickle of top ams turning over the next 6months or so as they drop out of contention for the Olympics.

Re: Danny Price turns pro with Maloney
yeah i believe there will be a good few of good amateurs turning pro over the next few months, one who has recently signed pro terms is gary corcoran a brother of recent pros billy and eddie, he will box as a light welter and had 50 amateur fights beating some very good names along the way including 3 time aba champ martin stead just 6 months ago.Tommy Gunn13 wrote:There should be a few id have thought, only four out of theses might make the olympics Anthony Ogogo-Callum Smith,Tom Stalker-Bradley Saunders,Martin Ward-Ian Weaver(both young so might stay AM) Andrew Selby-Kal Yafai....then a few others a differant weights i dont think will qualify...wrimc wrote:Good signing was wondering when he would turn over should be an interesting trickle of top ams turning over the next 6months or so as they drop out of contention for the Olympics.

Re: Danny Price turns pro with Maloney
Top kid in my opinion but needs to develop some power to succeed in professional ranks.
Watched him give David Dolan an absolute lesson in Liverpool back in 2005 and that was the performance that confirmed his arrival as a senior prospect.
Was controversially selected ahead of Tony Bellew to represent England in the 2006 Commonwealth Games but the decision was justified when he defaeted Bellew at that year's ABA finals by a narrow two point margin.
Tall, quick and and a smart boxing brain, Price, with close guidance, can aim high at cruiserweight

Nice lad, felt sorry for him being dropped out of the squad, he's been in it for years. Very decent fighter, hope he does well.

Also heard Tommy Stubbs has signed with Hatton Promotions
Re: Danny Price turns pro with Maloney
heard good things about price a while back in boxing news, cruiser needs some new blood domestically, british title has become non-existent.

Good signing and hope he does well although I have a niggling feeling that he might have stayed am for too long ( much like Dolan did )
Re: Danny Price turns pro with Maloney
Hopefully Dickinson fights Norton next then winner fight Askin get the title moving. Can see him fighting for title within 10 fights.
