Leon Calvin (Spinks).

Post by KOJOE90 »

Novice professional Leon Calvin was shot dead 15 years ago this month in what I understand may have been a gang related incident.

Leon was the son of former Heavuweight Champion Leon Spinks and older brother of former Welterweight Champion Cory Spinks.

What I was wondering was anyone ever convicted of Leons Murder?

Last I heard (many many years ago) was no, nobody was charged. Being gang related there was very little chance the cops would be going all out to catch the killer

From what I understand Calvin and Spinks barely knew each other and it was only in the last couple of years of Calvin's life that they spent any time together

Ok, thanks for the feedback anyway. I heard it was a Blood and Cribs(?) thing.

Thats what I heard to I understand that Leon was never married to Calvins mother whom I understand passed away about 6 years ago after suffering a stroke.

There's a couple of chapters in Punchlines' by Phil Berger, on Leon. It dedicates a chapter to the Leon Calvin story :TU:

Apparently as an amateur Leon was great mates with Aaron Pryor, the mind boogles at what those two party animals got up to. :TU:

Good god man, those 2 between them would have started WW3 :-?

I swear to god a movie on the life and times of Neon Leon would be just brilliant viewing. Although can't think of any actor to play Leon

I agree. :TU:

Or even a book on Leon would be great apparently after his 'legit' Boxing career ended in the mid 90's Leon took part in many unlicemced fights in seedy abandoned factorys etc.

Leon almost had his Boxing career bacKwards. Heavyweight Champion of the World, then contender, then journeyman then unlicenced fighter.

Very strange.

A good book on Jimmy Young and Jerry Quarry would be very welcome to.
