I wouldn't say that Gomez took him to school, the fight was not disimiliar to David Haye's loss to Carl Thompson.

Alex Arthur demonstrated an amateur streak and totally abandoned defence.

It was a learning fight.

To put his career into context, Alex was like Billy Schwer a fighter that excelled at domestic level but did not quite have enough to make an impression at world level.

I always thought that he would achieve more than Scott Harrison as he seemed to posesses more talant.

However in retrospect Harrison achieved far more, although he relied far more on strength and size than finese.

Alex Arthur's fight with Michael Gomez was a cracker.

AAA was indeed a fine fighter but never ever in the class of Scott Harrison or Ricky Burns the proofs in the results my friend,the truth be known AAA and Scott very rearly even sparred in the gym

I dont think its right to say that Arthur failed at world level. He never really had an opportunity. Its not his fault Guzman was a nightmare to pin down. By the time Arthur secured the title he was unable to make the weight effectively. Watch the Cook fight, that is not the real Alex Arthur. He was slow, sluggish and lacked intensity, all the hallmarks of a weight drained fighter. Arthur's career is defined by misfortune and bad timing not by lack of ability or being exposed at a higher level. He was a trmendous European champ and really was never even challenged at that level. He was a world class fighter and a big puncher, no doubt about it.

Gomez was indeed in tip top shape for that one.

The pressure he applied plus Arthur's seeming inability to defend left hooks made it a torrid night for Alex.

Personality wise, he's not my cup of tea. He always seems a bitter man to me, if it's not the weight it's his trainer, or some other spurious reason.... plus all this world champion crap bugs me.

I'd like him to call it quits before he suffers any further ego damaging losses, any thoughts of future world title fights ought to have gone out of the window after the clear points defeat to Nigel Wright, a man with several losses below domestic title class.

gomez had it imo in terms of potential & it is plain to see fw thought he was prime meat & fed him to arthur knowing if arthur couldnt defeat a past it gomez he aint the package & obviosly he knew there's a risk.

I thought Arthur did a good job on commentary, he seemed a thoroughly nice fella to me.

In terms of his boxing career I always thought he was overrated, I just didn’t understand the hype, he wasn’t a massive puncher, wasn’t particular good on his feet, didn’t have the best of handspeed & was absolutely wide open.

Been strong, with good punch variety wouldn’t have been enough at world level, Guzman would have boxed rings around him.

I think he thought he was better than he actually was AND as a result couldnt get up for fights becasue he thought that they were beneath him, (if you see what i mean) when the truth his he shoudl have known his real limitiations and tried harder, like someone like say..Holyfield did.

I always liked Arthur he had the skills to go all the way. Ok he became a world champ but didnt exactly merit it. He was always a bit cocky had a bit of an ego i thought. He should retire and concentrate on promoting.

I actually went back and watched the Holmes fight (I rememeber Steven Baldry saying to me "it is't a very good fight" when I bought it off of him) last week and it was a really good scrap.
