Not sure he walks on water Taffy
DD But there must be a reason FW hasn't put Nick Cotton on in Wales. Wonder why?
Re: So Bellew and Cleverly is on then
Back to the original point, of course it's a tough fight for Anthony and one many will have him as an underdog in. But just don't expect the same tactics as against McKenzie because Clev isn't a puncher. That's all I'm saying. That big Welsh chin is gonna get tested properly at some point
Re: So Bellew and Cleverly is on then
They will sell more tickets in Liverpool. Clev won't sell enough tickets himself and after losing Enzo Cal's stable he won't have enough local ticket sellers

Re: So Bellew and Cleverly is on then
Guys trust me, Nathan sells a lot of tickets. More than Bellew did on Saturday and Clev has had his last 11 fights out of Wales.
It isn't on in Cardiff because there's not a suitable venue. The CIA and Ice Rink are too small. The castle is under refurbishment. The Millennium Stadium is too big. The Cardiff and Swansea stadiums will be in season and won't take their pitches up.
Where could he fight in Wales?
And someone said earlier on the thread that he won't sell because he left the Calzahghes. That's a simply laughable argument which I won't dignify with a proper response. Joe was a great fighter but Welsh boxing doesn't rely on him, he hasn't fought for 3 years!

Why not... They are the two best Light-Heavies in the country, Tony Bellew wants the job and wants Nathan Cleverly WBO's which to be honest was effectively handed to him on a plate after Jurgen Braehmer pulled out they have same promoter in allegedly, there is genuine needle between the pair of them and I can see it packing out the Echo Arena or Wembley Arena so if anyone of allegedly's staff read this forum make it happen.

Re: So Bellew and Cleverly is on then
My point is why has Clev not fought in Cardiff since when? Calzaghe Kessler? I mean he's always fought in other people's towns on other people's bills. Its not just this fight is it come on...dewipowell wrote:Guys trust me, Nathan sells a lot of tickets. More than Bellew did on Saturday and Clev has had his last 11 fights out of Wales.

And he may have brought 3000 to the O2 (i wasnt there but i would be surprised if that s accurate) but I watched him at Wembley against Brancallion and there were 200 welsh there max and against Mohameddi the same.

Dewi Bach, let them believe what they wantJust wait until we turn Liverpool Welsh for the evening 8) Toffee Blue against Dragon Red
I'm going to have to mate otherwise I'll be on here for days. I know the truth and just can't wait for wherever it is. Cardiff, Liverpool or the moon - I'll be there.
Nath is a perfect role model and a top guy, I wish he'd get the respect he deserves. But us Brits like a moan don't we?
I guarantee when Clev and Bellew do fight, it'll be a crowd pleaser (< although I'm not sure that's a real word lol) and I hope they both get the respect they deserve for putting on a fight of fireworks.
Re: So Bellew and Cleverly is on then
It wont be long before Cleverly will get 30K plus into the Millenium Stadium. Bomber is a walkover. No disrespect, but its true.

Re: So Bellew and Cleverly is on then
I think that's a bit harsh Dewi - there's a lot of respect for Nathan on this forum, both as a fighter and as a person, but equally you have to understand that the somewhat farcical nature of his ascent to a "world" title has left a bad taste in some people's mouths.dewipowell wrote:Nath is a perfect role model and a top guy, I wish he'd get the respect he deserves. I certainly don't think a Nathan versus Tony fight, as exciting as it is, is worthy of world title status - more like Euro at best.
Re: So Bellew and Cleverly is on then
Celverly has been operating on a higher level no doubt and if he was still EBU champion I could see an argument for there being others in the the queue ahead of Bellew for a shot at that belt. You can argue Bellew is a step back for Celverly at this point, which is fine but I don't view Cleverly as someone you "earn" a shot at because he now has a WBO belt.crusader wrote:Cleverly has wins over three EBU level fighters in Brancalion, Mohammedi, and Kuziemski, and a one-sided win over a top 10/12 world ranked fighter in Murat. To my knowledge every major boxing publication has Cleverly ranked in their top ten at LHW, and I can count on one hand all of the fighters at 175 who I would rank above him. Bellew, on the other hand, has been dropped several times at the British domestic level, and has never even fought an EBU level opponent, let alone someone who is generally ranked in the division's top ten. If Bellew had fought at this level he would probably not be undefeated, and this fight would probably not be happening.J-C wrote:No disrespect to Clev (or Bellew for that matter) but lets be honest, the WBO belt don't mean much in this instance. It's a very good Domestic/Euro level scrap, neither man has proved themselves beyond that level just yet.Tommy Gunn13 wrote:Bellew has done nothing to warrant a shot at a world title...FW wants to keep the belt in his stable,il tell you now NO WAY will i be roped in to PPV for this!! prob have Mitchell world title fight on the same bill....
Looking forward to it.
I like Bomber, but he has done nothing to earn a world title fight, and he is not on the same level as Cleverly.
Personally I'd like to see Cleverly proving he can beat the Yousef Macks of this world at this stage of his career.
Re: So Bellew and Cleverly is on then
Is this fight even happening? Has it been confirmed?
Re: So Bellew and Cleverly is on then
Tony Bellew pretty much said after his last fight, Cleverly was next. Its a good match-up. For fans and both guys.
People can argue Bellews short comings. But Nathan will no doubt fight to Bombers strengths.
I would like the fight in Cardiff. And i'm pretty sure it would sell out any of the venues - millenium stadium aside - no probs.
Only thing i am not looking forward to is the planks coming on here spouting silly stuff in the Tony Bellew alter-ego style ....whilst referring to Tony Bellew as Ant or Anthony because they read in last weeks BN that thats what his friends call him ...

Take it from me, and when I say I know I mean I gaurentee cleverly doesn't sell no were near half the tickets bellew sells. And I'm no idiot who makes figures up. I know how many tickets they both sell, Cleverly sells around 300-500 tickets a fight over here in England. Maybe if he was in Wales he would do a few more. But I promise u he is not a big ticket seller here. If this fight happens and it's in the echo arena. Bellew will sell it out near enough on his own, and am sure coz of the rivalry between the 2 cleverly will take about a 1000 or so him self. 1 things for sure it would easily easily sell out the echo arena
Re: So Bellew and Cleverly is on then
He's my cousin :) I didn't need Boxing News to tell me he's called Ant :) I'd post a picture if I knew how!
Sorry you think I'm a plank and I wasn't trying to be anyone other than me. I've watched nearly all of Clev's fights as I go to pretty much all the FW bills and he's done really well. I'm not trying to put him down. It's a hard fight either way you look at it.
I know I'm biased but my view is that I can understand why people might be saying that he's not done enough to warrant a world title shot. But it's not like Anthony is going to be fighting Bernard Hopkins is it. Clev's route to the WBO title was hardly the stuff of legend. Brancallion was horrendous, Murat was decent but is really a SMW and he struggled big time with Mohammedi. He wasn't brilliant in the last fight either in my opinion. He's also never fought a genuine puncher and with his defence I believe that makes him vulnerable.
Sorry if I came across the wrong way, I'd had a couple last night as it was my birthday
I stand by what I said about Clev never fighting in Wales - seems strange that if he can take 3000 to the o2 that FW has never put a show on in his home town for him. There's a reason for that.

Re: So Bellew and Cleverly is on then
Bellew ain't no ticket seller either! Its clear from the last show and the poor turnout (reported at about 3k in the Echo Arena) that its Paul smith who sells the tickets for the Liverpool shows, not Bellew.
and the reason Bellew does sell tickets is he always fights in his hometown! any fighters fighting in their home town would shift tickets, its not rocket science is it???
and ps - you must be good if you know how many of Clevs fans bought tickets direct from Ticketmaster, FW site etc

First off, I was at the Liverpool show and there was allot more than 3 thousand there.
Second off I never said I know what ticket master sells, I'm going on tickets what the boxes sell off there own back. And it's a fact cleverly does poor numbers. U say bellew sells coz he fights in his own town. Well even when they both fight in London bellew sells more tickets. Cleverly has only just started getting a few fans now since he has won a European and world belt when bellew takes his belt of him he will get even more fans himself coming to watch.
Why do you think cleverly hasn't fought in his own country since the Kessler fight????
Come on mate, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work it out. Like I say he has got Wales cheering for him now but only coz he's started doing well. Another thing u need to realise is that cleverly is the only prospect from your country so he is bound to have all of Wales cheering him on, bellew is one of many many prospects from his country so that's why he has a load of scouses going his fights. Cleverly has a whole nation wanting him to do well and bellew still out sells him.

fwarren is getting like arum for controlling titles..look at degale and the europeans, who prev said any fighter who lost their last fight cannot fight for the title..now bellew, he should cdefend his british belt a few times, win the euros then challenge clev...its all booolsheet and what makes our game a laughing stock

If we go by your reasoning ... then Bellew should have many times more supporting him, because England is by far more populated than Wales
It is true though. That fWank hasn`t done a very good job of building Nathans supporters. Cleverly hasn`t fought in Wales for almost 3yrs ... thats too long a time away to build a fan base to travel with him. Sure he will have a hardcore group of maybe a couple hundred .. but to build that into the thousands would take a few home defences to get people passionate about him.
So maybe fWank will now decide to build that fan base??

Does home advantage really mean that much in a fight like this?
Both are experienced campaigners who will both enjoy raptorous applause regardless of the venue. Cleverly's support has increased following every fight and I've seen him receive warm welcomes in places such as Cardiff, Birmingham, and funnily enough, Liverpool. The latter won't be as friendly come October 1st but "the man from the valleys" support will certainly be heard within the confines of the Echo Arena.
