just watched mitchell v murray back on sky

after being at the show and what a great fight from two warriors.

What really struck me was that when they were warming up and Jimmy Tibbs was giving Kevin his hands to hit, he just couldnt help but hit with spiteful punches. Murray by comparison just used Joe's hands to warm up with technical shots to loosen up etc -

throughout the fight every punch kevin threw was with bad intentions - he really does look to make space to land big hurtful shots, especially the left hook and uppercut. Thought he looked terrific and his body movement and shot selection was excellent. Still a bit easy to hit at times but proved he had the chin for lightweight, even though if he did step up to world level he'd have to tuck his chin in a bit more.

But proved he can take the power with him to LW even though it took him rounds to wear john down rather than shocking him with one big shot, next fight massive for Kevin. Hope he keeps momentum and Murray vs Rees would be some way back for John. The rematch with a world belt on the line would be a belter if it gets there

Kevin had to win and that knew the only way to do that was preparing for every eventuality I don't buy into all the talk that Murray and Gallagher have been pissing it up in the run up .Murray didn't look good last outing can't see him not preparing properly just don't think he had the same level of motivation as Kevin did but he will have in his next fight and when his back on form what a rematch

Right about the snap in Mitchells punches he hit his bare hands hard and when I've seen vids of him on the pads he hits them with bad intentions.

i noticed the quality of mitchells left hook and left uppercut on the night, they were accurate/powerful and thrown at exactly the right moments, the left uppercut in particular was mitchells finishing shot to combinations, just as murray was expecting another hook.

was such a classic "styles make fights" fight (cliche i know but so true) - John relentless and strong coming forward, so used to out-toughing opponents by cutting down the ring and throwing volume for round after round, but Kevin showing his superior boxing ability by getting on the backfoot to mix it up but getting into a war momentarily when he had to and punching on the inside with great class, like i say somehow finding the room to throw those hooks and uppercuts.

John to his great credit never stopped coming forward and throwing and his fighting instinct was there til the end, but he just found KM's class a step too far, I'm not sure if his gameplan could change for a rematch and we'd see pretty much a carbon copy if Kevin keeps his focus and preparation.

I know it's been said over and over, but Frankie Gavin could do worse than take some tips from Kevin (and the Tibbs') about dedication and living the life as you cant help thinking if he did, he has the talent in spades to achieve so much in this game. He'll never punch like Kevin, but Kevin will never be quite as quick and smooth as Frankie (but not many will be to be fair)

hopefully this turns into a rivalry. first fight was bloody good. if murray can win something and make the rematch bigger...i think murray can come back strong, and if he can, he is with the promoter who can make things happen.
