Amir Khan vs Zab Judah

Post by black panther »

Considering a fight of this magnitude involving a British fighter is only a few days away, I am somewhat surprised there isn't much discussion on the fight. Firstly, why isn't the fight on Sky again? Admittedly, if it was on Sky box office most likely I wouldn't pay for the fight purely because I like the idea that PPV should be value for money. The under-card is pretty damn poor!

Secondly, how do you see the fight going? I was pretty surprised to see Khan such a huge favourite (7-1 on). I know Judah has six losses on his ledger and is undeniably not at the peak of his powers. However, I still think he is dangerous. I see Khan outworking Judah enroute to a points win but it would not surprise me at all to see Judah ruin the Khan party with a perfectly timed left-hand counter. The least likely result for me is a Judah points win. He just doesn't throw enough punches these days. Thoughts?

Because sky havent been pushing it down our throats then kindov went under the radar

Ill just look at stream of fight and watch Fury vs Chisora on five

I think Khan wins a stinker of a contest on points (unam.) Still he's young and theres plenty more to come from him. I can't say I'm looking forward to this particular fight though, what time sunday morning is it due to start?

Its a good match up. That he hard such a hard time against Maidana - who then had such a hard time against an ancient Morales. Convinces me that Judah gets Khan out of there in good style.

That said. I'd never put money in Khans pocket. So no chance at all of me ever buying one of his fights.

Bookies are right of course, you have to make the younger fighter on the up & up the big favorite here. Zab always loses the big ones.

I'm still interested to see it though, as the first 5 or 6 rounds are going to be very interesting. While Zab has his confidence at 100%, he's got the speed and a left hook like the crack o doom. Khan needs to be very careful early on.

And suddenly Mayweather is spouting about Khan, saying he's on steroids too - he's in LV today apparently, and will have more to say. Tyson Fury seems to believe him,, and tweeted Khan about it....very odd.

Unification fight. Got to be good. Zab will land accurately enough at least once to test Khan.

This could be a much better fight than people think. But then I guess you can always say that.

I agree with Ezzard. Tougher assignment than some people think.

Khan should win, but will get hit and will be interesting to see how well he takes it.

Khan should win but it wont be easy.

I'm not sure whether this'll be a good fight or not. No doubt Zab is still dangerous although maybe not regarded as a bigger puncher than maidana he's far quicker and accurate so if Khan ends up in the same trouble as the Maidana fight i doubt he'd escape. That aside i see Khan winning a close points dec.

You'd rather put it in David Haye's pocket, because he's such a standup guy.

Very good fight, the second best at 140 behind Amir v Bradley.

BUT, it is not worth £15 as it is on in the wee early hours, it is not on HD and the undercard is less attractive than a vasectomy. I'm happy to sleep on through, avoid the result and pick it up on a youtube type site.

I don't think Khan has faced the problems that Judah brings before (flying chairs etc). Will be a difficult night but he'll come through it in what will be a fairly uneventful bout.

Remember, he is a Goldenboy fighter and Goldenboy fighters have a habit of losing when they are not supposed to

It's Khan turn now

----
Ignore taht logic, but I still think Judah wins. The uppercut will land and Khan won't absorb it

This is a difficult one, Khan might just run into one of those fast Judah bombs early on, with his style he's open for it, but we all know how Judah fades terribly down the stretch

I'll go out on a limb and say Judah early tko

Judah stoppage for me. The crude Maidana had Khan going, and Judah is a much more accurate, crisper puncher. Khan's chin is easy to find and Zab will get there. Once he's hurt Judah will pile it on and stop him.

I see the first 5 rounds being touch and go with khan being very cautious, and Judah looking for combinations behind his jab. But after 5 nip and tuck rounds Khan's fast hands and skills should let him take over, after about 5 I see him beginning to push Judah back and he's not as effective on the back foot (even with the new defensive skills installed by Pea). Khan close but clear decision taking over with his good engine in the middle to late rounds after a tough start.

Can't wait for it now. I won't stay up but will watch in the morning. If I put the copmputer on I'll only get to know the result. So I'll be watching it on TV.

I think it's intriguing and Khan is exciting to watch.

I think that Judah can win this, I really do. I was just on the phone arguing with my regular early-hours-of-Sunday-morning drinking partner for the big Vegas fights, who thinks that Khan will win easily. But here's my view: It's true thatin the big fights Judah's been in, apart from his second fight against Spinks, he's always looked extremely impressive early before fading or being spectacularly stopped. But his opponents have always ground him down in their own way -- Clottey through being enormous at the weight and teak tough and bull-strong in the way African fighters can only be, Cotto by being technically sound, heavy handed and relentless, Mayweather by being being defensively near-perfect, having a top-draw chin, patience, laser-guided accuracy and having a brilliant boxing brain that can make mid-fight adjustments, and Tszyu by having a top-draw chin, loving southpaws and being accurate and awesomely powerful. Baldomir did nothing, but Judah seemed to completely turn off after the fifth or sixth and I have no idea what his addled mind was thinking.

Does Khan have what it takes to get beyond those opening rounds, if Judah doesn't have another brain-fart? To be sure, Judah isn't as fast as he was in those days, but I was impressed by what I saw in his last fight. He was far more defensive, and showed vastly improved upper body movement and footwork, which to me seems the best way to leverage his remaining speed and still exceptional power. But more importantly, he looked far more patient and his concentration had improved immeasurably. He won that fight at just the point when in the past he would have been fading, losing interest and swinging wildly. And that trap he laid, and the punch he threw, to set up the knockout was a thing of beauty.

Khan doesn't have the china-chin some of the more reactionary crowd on here suggested in the aftermath of the Prescott debacle, but he is vulnerable there. And Judah is surely one of the heaviest hitters in the division. Worse for Khan, Judah's punches aren't the swinging-from-Arkansas, tree-felling, clubbing affairs Maidana throws, but fast and sharp and probably even more concussive.

Of course, the question remains open whether Judah will be able to maintain his balance in the face of that jab, which must surely be one of the fastest in the game, and how his new, lateral-and-upper-body-movement heavy, defensive, counterpunching style will cope with Khan's fleet footwork, in and out style and blindingly fast hands, but I think this fight is far, far closer than the bookmakers have it.

In my view, Khan is favourite, but only slightly, and anyone looking for value should lump on Judah. You'd probably lose your cash six times out of ten, but you'd still make a fortune because you can get 4-1 on Judah.

You're following the wrong 'Tyson Fury', mate. That was a spoofer (or whatever you call a twitterer with a snide account). Tyson_Fury is the one that's really him. Source: Tyson Fury via Jane Couch interview.
Ah right, that makes sense, seemed too OTT - don't follow him, just saw it re-tweeted. Good to see Kevin Mitchell is covering it...

Good post. I'm broke so I can't bet too much on Zab. But I'll be kicking myself I imagine afterwards for not emptying the coffers on him. Zab is going to ambush him. Khan is just the type of vulnerable fighter Judah can beat at this point.
