Amir Khan - His next fights should be ?

Post by Quixall »

My feeling is that Khan hasnt yet completed business in the 140lbs division........So there are the fights i think he should take

1. Alexander

2. Bradley

3. Maidana (Re-Match)

Then move up to welterweight

1. Berto

2. Ortiz

Then look for the fight with Mayweather or Pacquaio if that will ever happen

I even think that should a Mayweather or Paquaio fight not happen, Khan could even go to 154lbs or a catch weight to face maybe a Margarito, Cotto or Martinez or perhaps a paul Williams. Thats maybe looking too far ahead, but im mindfull of the fact that if Khan is to have the fights that will clear up the 140lbs division and then get a taster of the 147lbs division through either Ortiz or Berto, Mayweather could have retired permanently by that time and i doubt that Khan will ever face Pacquaio, leaving a move to the 154lbs division open. I think that 154lbs would be his limit, but he is young enough to move through three weights and have some success at all three catagories.

What do you guys think ?

Bradley (if the deal can't be struck then Alexander would be a very good replacement)

Move Up unified the division can't do anymore;
Homecoming against Brook
Win a belt (maybe Zaveck or Berto, if he regains a title)
A big one maybe Mayweather/Ortiz

This is the best scenario IMO but I can see Morales getting a shot at him and probably a rematch with Maidana (which I wouldn't complain about!!)

Giving Khan his due he has been on a tremendous run of fights. Only Froch, Mayweather, Cotto, Martinez, Hopkins, Marquez and Pacquiao have been on a more intense run. Next fights, well if he can't get Timothy Bradley then I see no reason why he couldn't use this match to avenge the prescott loss (provided prescott defeats Mcloskey). Otherwise i would suggest Morales or Humberto Soto.
Following that it would be Bradley or Juan Manuel Marquez for me. If Bradley still won't step up then let the punk go with out his payday.
Then up to welterweight.
I don't think Khan should even bother with a tune up and go straight after either Brook, Berto or Ortiz. (whichever one holds a title).
then following this MAYWEATHER.

I don't see that an Alexander fight is that intriguing, or sells that well.

I think the Morales fight would be great and he would get another good name on his record. Bradley obviously would be a great fight. Apart from that I don't think anything else is really left at 140, if they are stuck a rematch vs Maidana will always sell.

Other than those 3 I don't see a lot lef at 140 for him to do.

The only fight out there for him now is surely Timothy Bradley -- and it'd be closer and better, in my view, than people think it would be in the warm afterglow of Khan's tremendous performance on Saturday.

If that can't be made, Alexander would be logical, but I'm not sure it'd sell well. The winner of Guerrero-Maidana will be next on their list, I think (although they'd be more eager to take that if it's a Guerrero win, I suspect).

It'd be a shame to see Khan in there against Morales. El Terrible is one of my favourite all time fighters, and despite his clever performance against Maidana, I can't see him managing to generate anything against Khan.

It should be Bradley, but seems inevitable to be Morales instead.

Bradley should be the next fight for him to try and unify, maybe Alexander..

If he moves to 147 then Brook should be the first fight, then depending on outcome..

Aim for a World Title shot, I personally think that the Brook fight would be dangerous for Khan.

The more I think about it, the more I think it'll be Bradley.

Bradley's decision not to fight Khan was based on the boneheaded guarantee HBO gave him for the Alexander fight. Why take on a high risk fighter like Khan when he could make almost as much fighting someone easier? Everyone knew this, but after the fight, the spin has been that Bradley bottled it. That spin was started by Max Kellerman right after the fight, and has been furthered by Golden Boy. It's become the main talking point among the journalists covering and reviewing the fight.

I think it's a case of trying to goad Bradley into the fight, and I think it will succeed. There's really nowhere else for Bradley to go, and a fight between Khan and Morales would be most unsatisfactory. HBO have invested heavily in the clutch of young fighters in the 140lb division, and I believe an ultimate unification fight in December between Khan and Bradley is what they're desperate for. A win for Khan would set up a Mayweather super-fight in the late Spring of 2012. Since Mayweather is clearly terrified to put his oh up against Pacquaio, it's the only place for HBO and Mayweather to go.

Bradley should be top priority but it remains to be seen whether it can be made? Guerrero is a man on form just now that would be good to see.

its got to be bradley. i never thought khan would get past maidana or judah because of the chin thing, but it looks as though hes put that to rest now.when you look back to khan pre roach you wouldnt think he was the same fighter.
now that hes got a defence and is being taught by roach you would think hes going to get even better. im not sure how much judah had left before the fight but khan still hit him at will, bullied him around and bashed him up. i dont know much about the up and comers of the division but i do think bradley is an excellent champion, with heart ,technique, power and durability ...he has it all, so i think he will be the final test for khan. if he can beat bradley, then i think he would be entitled to say that hes the best in the division. I think bradley v khan would be an excellent fight...i would even pay to see it.

Even though it will probably happen at some point, I'm not hugely interested in a Prescott rematch.

IMO Guerrero/Bradley are the best fights at 140. As for Morales, I would make Khan a very big favourite but it could turn out to be interesting.

Then I would look for Brook/Ortiz/Berto at 147 - all big fights.

If he gets a sniff of a shot at Mayweather then he should grab it with both hands. I doubt he could win but Khan is improving, Mayweather is getting older and opportunities like that do not come around very often.

Kahn's next targets:

1. Timothy Bradley
Both men have equally dominated the division. Both have 2 titles, this superfight makes sence.

2. Devon Alexander
Former World Champion, still a top contender in the weight division and only a single loss to his name.

3. Breidis Prescott
If Kahn can't get either of the two men above, he should get the revenge fight against Prescott, and kill him.

NOTE: I don't yet think that Khan had does neough in the division to move up in weight, I think he should stay there for another 18 months-2 years... Get another 4/5 fights.

Guerrero looked really impressive vs Katsidis and in his last few fights. I think he would be a real dangerman for Khan and doesn't really have the big name to justify the risk vs reward thing - so I think they will avoid him.

Indeed Morales has seen better days. But if he can't get Bradley or another big name opponent, which i doubt he will, Morales will be ideal.

He is a big name that will get Khan some exposure, and is a solid southpaw with an orthodox skill set where Khan may learn a thing or two.

Morales has looked pretty decent since his return, and can be a live underdog,

Sorry observer, what does southpaw with orthodox skillset mean. You mean he is a right handed southpaw ala Tyson, DLH?

I never would have guessed. The one time I see him turn southpaw Pacman leathered him in the last round of their first fight

As for the topic, assuming Prescott loses to McCloskey I would go with Alexander. But would Alexander take it though?

Three fighters I don't want to see him fight are....

Prescott - utterly pointless
Morales - doesn't really need explaining
Alexander - lost his last three (to anyone with eyes)

Ideally it'll be Bradley but it seems he's got Mayweather syndrone and has decided to sit around doing nothing.

I'd be quite happy with Matthysse or Maidana, even Guerrero.

Just not Prescott, ffs
