cap...i don't know that much about the decision he lost to louis...just what i read at the time and since...(at the time I should point i was just a wee lad)...but farr is cited mostly for his excellent stand against the bomber..but i don't think there were many who thought he won.
..as for homeland advantage.....i don't have farr's record in front of me..but he did lose to some fighters in the u.s. whom he beat in england. braddock/farr?...i have no knowledge...except it looked as if farr was on his way to a win but braddock pulled it out with a strong final round rally. again...i don't know if the decision was fair or not. braddock was still hugely popular....the cinderella man aspect....and that could have swayed the judges.
we shall be hearing from braddock fans shortly.

thats a load of crap..you know you can say something like that because it was a close fight, and the idea that that coulda happened poped into your head... braddock destroyed farr in the first 3 rounds, arguabley won the 4.. 5,6,7 belonged to farr...(7th round- farr used alot of energy at the end of that round when he had braddock on the ropes.) okay so that 4-3 either way... depending on who gets round 4...8'th round id probly give to farr... so that makes it at worse for braddock 5-3... probably 4-4. the 9th round was the most lopsided round of the fight, the first lopsided round was round 2, both round for braddock...the 10th round was yet another round for braddock...so at WORSE for braddock it was 5-5 in rounds... probly 5-4-1 for braddock because the fourth was so close...now who are you gonna favor in a decision between 2 guys who won the same amount of rounds, but destroyed him in 2...braddock won this fight dont u dare try to take it from him
I looked up the NY Times article on the fight and Braddock won a very close decision but Farr only had himself to blame. Braddock won the first couple rounds, Farr dominated the middle rounds with a tremendous body attack and pulled ahead, but Braddock made a great stand in the last 2 rounds to pull out the fight. The scores were 6-4 Braddock, the referee had it 4-4-2 even (voted for Braddock), and 6-4 Farr. Today, this fight would have been a draw. Farr was so incensed at the decision that he refused to shake Braddock's hands after the fight and even assaulted a cameraman that came into his locker room. He was lustily booed by the crowd when he left after spurning the handshake.
The main reason why Farr lost is because of repeated fouling. He lost the 3rd round, even though he won it in the ring, because of excessive backhanding and flicking in the clinches despite repeated warnings by the referee before and warnings at the weigh-in about this tactic. If he doesn't foul in this round, he wins the fight.

My Grandmother's account would abck this up. She listened to it on the radio with her family. she tells a great story fo how she clenched her fists so tightly whilst listening (due to the excitement) that her nails dug into her skin and cut the palms of her hands. she won't have it that Joe won fair and square.KOJOE90 wrote:Regarding the Louis - Farr fight.
One theory that I heard as to why some people think it was a very close fight was that the UK radio broadcast of the fight was very pro-Farr. Giving the impression to UK fights fans that Farr had done a little better than he actually had.
Just a thought.
Still it was a great performance by Tommy. I saw him in an interview once saying that Joe hit him in the forehead with a right and he kept asking the cormerman if his brow was dented.
